Old Newcastle boozers

There was a nightclub just along from the german place in waterloo street, fu**d if I can remember the name. All I can remember is you had to stagger up steps to get to the door, think there was a gay rumour about the place but didn't bother us, anywhere for a slurp. Of booze like.

What about the Oxford, my old man used to go on about that all the time. Didn't it get reopened as some other place years later?

What was the name of that boozer a few yards down from the Old George. Seem to recall it had a talking minah bird in at one time ?

John

Was that Pumphreys John, at least I think that's what it was called in the eighties.

Trafalgar/Waterloo ???? Something like that. I am sure that well known toon gay Vivian movewd there from the Golden Tiger. Now he was a right character,a right bundle of laughs !

John

That has to be the Viv that had the Asure Blue a few years back, what a character as you say.

Yep that was him. Had a few good nights in the Azure Blue as used to live in the Bensham area before moving down the coast in the 70s. Viv did a load for charity. Got stabbed there by some young lowlife. He had the Crown at the end of Coatsworth Road prior to the Azure Blue.

John

Yes John sadly some horrible tow rag did stab him, he was a real handful from what I've heard.
Coatsworth Road wasn't a bad place to drink years ago I seem to remember but not worth looking at these days I'm told.
