Old Newcastle boozers

Yes John sadly some horrible tow rag did stab him, he was a real handful from what I've heard.
Coatsworth Road wasn't a bad place to drink years ago I seem to remember but not worth looking at these days I'm told.

lived almost next door to the honeysuckle many many years ago - many a happy night in there

Sadly Mark, like many locals these days it was closed last time I was in Frasers mind you I also passed a couple of lads TOTALLY off the planet on something obviously nasty, another more common sight these days.
Almost all of the boozers in Walker have gone now and the new "local" I took on when I moved to Dunston is a block of apartments TUT !!!

What a great and interesting thread this has turned out to be. What was the name of the boozer downstairs at the SW corner under the Grainger Market ? Used to frequent that a lot but cannot recall the name !!!!

John

Yep it was John, we used to drink around the Greenmarket bars a lot in the eighties, I suppose working at the Cordwainers had a bad influence on me.

I worked on Scotswood Road back in the Late 60s and 70's. Some of the bars I used then were
The Chieftan
Pineapple Club
Electricians Arms
Cushy Butterfield
Moulders Arms
Hammer and Forge
The Gun
Hydraulic Crane
Formans Club (belonged to Vickers who I worked for)
Robin Adaire
Scotswood Club

All gone now I think

Is that central bar your on about the one they've just done up, just on your left before the tyne bridge (going north)? Is it still a bar? it was a cracking boozer years ago

It would be interesting to know if the old regulars have gone back. I don't think like. Mind, They made a cracking job of the refurbishment, from the outside anyway. Just can't understand why it wasn't demolished to make way for a macdonalds or something, like others.

regulars now frequent the station bar and railway club cos the central is more a real ale bar/music. made a nice job of the refurb though
