Wasn't to long ago when the adelaide collapsed. We had to use fitzgeralds after the match, weren't the same like, same as old orleans. We got barred out of there just for applauding a shearer goal

I was gutted when the Haymarket went and then they stuck Old Orleans at the other end, i'm sure they could have figured out in the plans to leave the Haymarket. Never like the Orleans place and i see it's even changed it's name.

Talking of old pubs, Morpeth has lost my first drinking hole and good pub, the old red bull to make way for a bloody roundabout. 200 years there has been a pub on the land, the end of an era and many a drunken night.

Forgot to say when talking about match day, it was the trent hoose. After the falmers went like. Trent hoose is a canny boozer like assuming yer can get served like.:D

That was the Waterloo, just at the junction with Westgate road, I remember passing it in a car with a couple of mates and there was a sign outside saying Newcastles only topless bar, we turned back round and parked up only to find it was being demolished and the roof was off it...lol.

Aye that was it cheers, and Bob Monkhouse then opened a nightclub just a few yards up from there - cannot recall the name of that one either !!!

Back in my Bath Lane college days we used to go and watch the strippers at a bar near the bottom of Westgate Road. The name escapes me on this one as well.

Anyone mentioned the Lion and Lamb,Percy St yet ?

John

I know my uncle managed the black garter and the lowther but he also managed a pub on the hill a little way up on the same side as tilleys, it got pulled down to make way for the new road. would i be right in thinking it was called the george and it was a bass pub?

What about the " canny lad ", that was a good bar, met my wife in there so I have good and bad memories of the place, we used to frequent the upstairs bars around the green market as well , Cats above Butlers, Jumpers above the Blackett Arms, Lords above the Fish bar.

Re........ old hauts in the TOON

Re........ old hauts in the TOON

I was a local in the Durham Ox used to drink there with Hughie, Danny, and Arthur Tams, then there was the Gay Trooper, me mate Dicky Hardy was on the door, Percy Arms, then the Farmers Rest at the haymarket back down to the toon center was the Vic and Comet localy known as the Vic and Vomit then there was the Half Moon in Pink Lane was always good for a scrap in there on friday nights a couple of bars on Westgate Road cant remember there names but used to drink in there with Jonny "Boy" Stewart, Then there was my favourite drinkin hole the Pineapple Grill, had some good sessions in there with "TRICKY" Dicky Ford, Joe Cammello (R.I.P.)...... John Andrew "MARIO" Cunningham, Barry Ford,These were the good old days back in the late 60's and 70's with no knives, drugs, proper bars with no glitz and glamour.... Hope some people can remember the names of the bars on Westgate Road as am getting to old to remember all of them, in fact i cant remember the last time i caught a decent cod;)

Ya Reet there Tommy there was a sign ootside the waterloo saying "TOPLESS BAR" but when ya got in it was all blokes behind the bar with no shirts on

Brilliant thread, loads of memories (good and bad) lol

Darnell, Greyhound, Hodgys arms, Inn On The Park, Bay Horse, Dodd's Arms, Balmoral. The Blue Star Club and The Magpie opposite SJP. Carters (above the Lowther), Fish bar, Cordwainers. Got my first under-age drinking rap in the Cafe Royal lol, Eldon Grill, Butlers. I could go on forever lol

Anybody remember the old Labour club around the corner from The Strawberry? Sunday afternoons (12 till 2 lol) were mental, loads of building workers playing bingo and one game used to take all afternoon cos there was a song for every number called and nobody shut up singing lol, even when the strippers were on.

That brings back the memories the labour club used to go there every sunday with the lads from Swalwell the bingo was brill especiallt when 69 come out 69 the way the best way, used to go on for ages, i remember when one stripper came on it must of been her first time and when she stuck her feet up they were filthy and everbody started chuckin beer mats at her oot of there and a few wheelie's on the motor bike then back home.them were the days
