NESA Species Hunt 2013

Table updated. Well done Aqua-Holic you are now in second place.

Geordie UK - What species of Gurnard is that? Grey Gurnard?

The rockling vote is 6-4 in favour of multiple species so we can continue to argue /debate over them :)

Fair enough Mike but I still think debating bi catch is pointless.

As for identification, that is down to the captor to sort out. If you want to claim a species you need to provide solid photographic evidence that it is indeed that species; if it is not clear from the photograph then either no fish can be claimed or it goes down as the most commonly caught example (at risk of starting a new discussion :hallucine: )

This is a very sensible idea by Stewart.

I've started an identity thread maybe if u more experienced guys go put some info in as to tell species apart it will b a great help for likes of me. I tryd to put info in myself but that's as much as I know tbh. Maybe even best angles to get pics etc to help distinguish the sub species would b good info also to add

The pic is a bad one, its not a sandeel and was silver, and the blood is off macky, it was lip hooked on the point of the daylite hook, I was getting them every cast for an hour lots of them foul hooked with the odd one lip hooked. Impossible to photo as it was so wriggly and slippery.

OK. If you really believe that's what it is then I will credit it. Previously you were unsure. I can't be bothered to argue about it.

No need for the snide comments... you previously didnt have a clue.

I wasnt shure but others were certain of what it was.

No arguing from me, i would just like it to be correct same as you would im shure?

we voted in favour to debate and include all sub species so we may aswell start again with mine what ever the outcome

fair?

My attitude is and always was for this only to be correct

im sorry if ive come accross as argumentative but a forum is for debate and to learn

im shure we have all learnt something regarding rocklings so in my opinion the species hunt on the whole has benefited

no hard feelings as yes its only a fish and a bit of fun

happy hunting!

Pete, I caught a few of those tiny sandeels the other day mate, defo sandeel, just really really small. Had two balanced across my treble on a spinner hahaha, quite funny.

So far as people commenting on fish not lip hooked, there are a couple of photos on here where there is clear foul hooking damage on the body of peoples fish...there are some people who will try and submit these as legitimate fish but im also aware that even if a fish takes a hook in its lip then a flailing hook can still sometimes catch them in the side making it appear foul hooked even when not...

I think if Pete says its lip caught then its lip caught.... there has to be an element of trust here.... (even if its a fluke that it ended up in its mouth! :D:D)
