Headlight

Hi Lads, im considering buying a new light for the winter. want something with huge light spread, looked at things like the samalite. obviously i want value for money and notice there are a few different models out there. If money was not an object what light would you buy?
cheers

Just got a Lenser H14 ,rated at 210 lumens but puts my 300 lumen cree lamps to shame, can have a broad beam or adjust it to spot,as much light as anyone needs.Runs on 4 aa batteries which last about 4 hours on high.

depends on if ya want to lug a big battery around with ya, personally i rate my tiga above a samalite, but then again for ease and comfort my cree does the job to, 3 different beam settings and 300 lumens

Totally wide of the mark here and probably drifting away from your main Q, money no object.

But after recently taking up sea fishing after years away, catching up on modern tech n all that...

Fished with someone just taking up the sport and he got two of these delivered for around £6! LOL

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Everytime he faced my direction he blinded me.

Its cheap, crap, made in china, but for the price, buy container of them LOL
Light was bright, huge spread, and I guess that being LEDs, that the batterys (3xAA) will last a good while (Probably the short life of the device lol)

Hope it helps someone else reading your thread interested in headlamps which is why I thought worth replying, nothing to loose at the price.

Tiga SL 12 with slimline battery and a lenser H7R for back up, thats what i use for fishing the cliffs and rock edges, dont think you would get a better pair, tiga for wide flood and the lenser weighs next to nothing and gives a good spot light.

Magicshine £70. 900 lumens and as bright as a light house.

Another vote for this lamp from me, has 2 settings and even the lower one is very bright. Much brighter than any light I have seen, so bright in fact that you will p*** off other anglers trying to sneek fish in during darkness!!
Battery lasts for ages on 1 charge and is fully sealed with a meter showing the remaining battery power, useful if you want to know how much battery power you have left. Got mine for £60 and money well spent. They are mountain biking lamps but you get a headpiece and also a spare lens in the box.
Brighter than Tigas and the samalite and speleo cree's and up to £200 cheaper!!

Only negative is you may need to order a 1 meter extension cable if you like the battery pack in a low pocket or on your belt.

I have a £10 300 lumen cree and whilst these do a good job for the money they are not a patch on the magicshines.

If you want a real lighthouse there is an even brighter 1500 lumen version!!!

Im blind as a bat in the dark after laser eye surgery and these lights are a godsend!

hi m8 get yourself i petzl ultma best light ever 350 lumes on high but on low i think my one is 80 when you put it on high its like putting your car headlights on it unberlieverable they are dear but you get what you pay for ps they are very light aswell hope that helps

Would that be as bright as the 52 LED ones?
Certainly not the spread, looks like a very focal spot light

Yeah, the CREE LED's are brighter than the 53's. Even 1 LED at 2000 mcd is less then 0.5lm at 35mA. Most single CREE LED's will output 80lm minimum at around 350mA.

53LED's will be around 27lm (there not going to be High end LED's like 10000mcd) but for that 27lm you will need around 35mA per LED. so 1700mAh

Where as CREE will produce upto 80lm on 350mAh

Thats why CREE LED's are always better. they have a smaller viewing angle than the 53 LED light but will last a lot longer and will stay brighter for longer.

1w CREE lithium headlamp would be soooo nice!

same as mine, except that mine comes with charger and 2 rechargable batteries, only takes one battery at a time, you can have wide beam, low or high, and a spot beam low or high. for £14 they are mint, and at 300 lumens deffo brighter than 52 leds

alright mate, ive just bought 2 cree headlamps,300lumen,£12 each inc delivery off ebay, from hong kong, excellent long lasting beam,if you check them out, make sure to get the 3.7v battery 1s not AAA,chargers arent up to much but i bought replace for £8.50,so set up will knock u back around £20,try avoid uk sellers.they probs bought bulk from hong kong and throw their bit on top,the beam on lamp well over 300yrds if needed

seen them at 600 lumens but guessing not last long on AAA batts

lumens is a measurement of light rather than power. a 1w CREE LED could be 1000 lumens its about the area of illumination rather than the power of the bulb/LED. like a focused beam such as a laser is so insignificant that its not even on the lumen scale, yet it is brighter than any room light (hence the spot). if that makes sense

Cree 300L - Lamp - 2 rechargale battries - charger £14 Ebay from hong kong used it Sat - night in all that rain no probs and very bright.

john.
