Headlight

Yeah, the CREE LED's are brighter than the 53's. Even 1 LED at 2000 mcd is less then 0.5lm at 35mA. Most single CREE LED's will output 80lm minimum at around 350mA.

53LED's will be around 27lm (there not going to be High end LED's like 10000mcd) but for that 27lm you will need around 35mA per LED. so 1700mAh

Where as CREE will produce upto 80lm on 350mAh

Thats why CREE LED's are always better. they have a smaller viewing angle than the 53 LED light but will last a lot longer and will stay brighter for longer.

1w CREE lithium headlamp would be soooo nice!

Excellent informative answer, Thanks ;)

the cree headlamps are spot on if you can get a powerful battery like the duracel and rechargable they worth every few quid you bought them for ideal for digging bait at night and also fishing why spend a fortune on others cheap as chips :)

ye kna it makes sense young un

I am sold on these Q5 Cree's

But 1 last thing bothering me as I checked around before clicking the buy button.

3 x AAA (4.5v) versions have obvious disadvantages vs a single 3.7v, in that the number of cells to charge n carry is more, and the headset will weigh more...

But, does anyone know if the 3 x AAA have advantages over the single cell 3.7v before I buy? I understand the mAh is how much charge it holds, but not sure on how the voltage will effect the performance. (Im no electrician!)

(Maybe I am better buying the 3 x AAA version and buying duracell rechargeable cells v china free cells?)

Cheers

I have the one with the two 3.7 volt rechargeable batteries, they are 2400 mAh which is better than most rechargeable batteries and is in one unit rather than the three. If you have the three batteries and they run down while you are fishing you will have to change three, that means you will have to buy six.
I have not managed to run down one of the 3.7 volt batteries yet while out fishing and if I did I only have one battery to replace and it comes free with the headlamp.
As I have said in other posts, good for the money.

Yeah I am aware that this means buying and carrying 6 AAA batteries v 2 x 3.7v ones (which come free).

The bit I wasnt sure of is if I had 3 x AAA batteries at say 1500mAh each, does this give me 4500mAh total, therefore outlasting the singe 2400mAh cell?

TBH, it doesnt really matter anymore, everone has stated how the single 2400mAh battery always lasts a full session and they never have to use the spare, so the question I have been thinking too much about, is irrelevant!

Cheers:D

exactly the same as mine John mate except mine came from fife and was delivered in 3 days, good point is you always have a spare fully charged battery to take with you

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Took delivery of the lamp in your link today Jimmy.
Thx for all the recommendations, 1st impressions im impressed..

However it came with no charging instructions.

Do you know if the solid red light on the charger goes out when its fully charged?

And is there any meaning to the small red led flashing on the back where the battery is? As it resembles a low battery warning, but as I say, no instructions lol.

Cheers ;)

It turns green when it is charged. Takes less than an hour. The led flashes all of the time the battery is in the unit. I put the battery in before I set off and take it out when I get home. Still haven't managed to run a battery down after four sessions.
