There nice to cast but if you want a reel for rough ground better of with a saltist or a 535 or slosh 30 with 30lb line straight through I've got a superman extra and use it for most sinarios
    Goal for 2012 a 30lber

hi there would agree with rod the cod I have 3 525 mags inc the extra model but use a slosh 30 or 7000 over rough ground 30lb straigh through the 525 is an excellent reel but not for rough ground with light line

a penn mag casts great with 18lb line on but i can get away with 20lb line there is not much left on the spool but the extra strenth helps i find its a great all round reel when a quick retreive is needed but as you say your using 18 lb line it cant be that rough the groung its basically a bigger version of your 515

I use 30lb straight thru on my 525's when fishing rock marks, yes you will near enough empty the spool but more than enough line capacity for a normal caster.
