Multiplier reel advice

Old Abu's

Old Abu's

I just recently serviced an old, original (although it had been converted with a CT bar) 7000c for a friend - it had had a hammering largely from abuse on the boat, the handle was wobbling and the ratchet didn't work properly. After a thorough strip down & clean I was amazed how well the original bearings were still running - they were good as new after re-lubing and everything tightened up nicely again. Just a shame ABU no longer build any of their reels to the same standard:(

I have a couple battered as hell, but still run and cast like new !
Pick them up for next to now't, service them with new bearings/washers, and a careful set up, bit of red rocket,( I find they need more than a drip).
It doesn't matter what they look like, and you will be glad you have one on the rod when you hit that pig !
Garcia ruined many a good name, I have a 6500 hi speed mag, don't use it on anything but the softest of ground, very flimsy.

for a top nick swedish 7000 or 7500 its usually £40 to £70 a piece dependng on the seller.

ID fishing often has them in second hand - or that big auction site is also good to pick a gleamer up.

Often our own trading section has some excellent examples as well.

If you can aim for the blue 7500CTC3, silver 7500C3, or Black 7000C or 7000C Syncro.

The red ones are jsut as good, but come with brass bushes rather than bearings and so can easily be upgraded.

do you know if the latest 7000i can have the bushes replaced with bearings too ????
