the cod are on the decline

Aye you might have a point there Ron mate, but dont know whether to actually consider your opinion coz your 'post count' isn't too good either!

now now ladies
the north east coast is a big enough place to catch fish if people want to put a catch report on about where they have caught fish and what size then that is up to them. if people do not want to tell you where they have caught fish that is also up to them it is not being greedy. there is almost enough fish in the sea for everybody. 'lol'. for me its about going out and enjoying the sport, getting out of the house for a few hours and winding down doing something that i love.
i have also met lads off this site who have shared their and experiance and given good advise when i have asked for it.

god you want serious, that means i have to go join some temperence society forum or worse

my biggest issue, i am a scouser, we tend in the main not to do serious unless its in a pint glass :D

REX, If you have a video of someone being a nipple head then why not put it on youtube cos' after all the camera never lies and it lets people make their own minds up about someone.

By the way I caught a 2lb cod last night which is only my second one of the season (up to now.....!).

me thinks rex is not new to the site and knows the lay of the land and likes his bit of fun,lol

So then, whos willing to tell us all where the fish were caught last night?? see theres only one catch report and nearly everyone said they were going out?!

fish are not in abundance as they were say 10 year ago but with the right knowledge of where to fish, conditions of the sea, fresh and well presented bait, rigs etc there are still plenty fish out to be had. fishing is a constantly learning game and the more you get out the more you learn. i dont post all my catch reports now unless they are worth putting up which recently have been poor but then again i haven't been out much. when i do go out i put a bit time and effort into where i'm going to fish. its hard work sometimes but it pays off. i'm still happy from catching second heaviest fish in the N v S last year on the south side of the tyne all with asking a few questions and looking at the sea conditions at the time.:):)
i have found over the last 6-7 months on nesa that people are getting a bit tetchy and uptight about things, if you are polite there is wealth of knowledge to be had, well it worked for me:)

cheers

Paul, yes the cod numbers have declined over the years, i can remember when i was in my early teens and seeing some of the senior members of our club (South Shields & District) catching numerous cod in excess of 10lbs.
They never fished when the sea was to big, inst4ead they waited till it dropped off and caught fish for around 4-5 days after it fell away.
You could go down to the bays at marsden and expect to see at least one double if not more in them days.
I remember catching a 9lb 8oz cod from the top of frenchy's, packing my gear to go along to Marsden where i knew some of the senior club members were fishing that night (pleasure session) i was so proud and wanting to let them see it ( cos i thought it was a beauty, my biggest fish to that date), when i approached les smith and doug peel and showed the my fish they both complimented me then said take a look on that rock and to my amazment there was not one double but three of them along with a couple of 5 pounders which made my catch look a bit feeble.

Now for Rex: catch reports: some like me dont do catch reports because it can look like bragging.
If i am lucky enough to catch fish in club matches and someone asks where i had been and i tell them they usually dont believe me anyway so for that reason i dont put reports on nesa and i know i should.

I think the whitley bay night open was won with around 19lb of cod this/last year with excellent backing weights. How does that compare with 70's and 80's? Did they used to have massive weights? Just curious.

40 pound bags of blyth beach in the 80s that any good for you. the fishing is not as good, that i can say for sure. i am not saying there is not fish about now but there was more fish in more places then :)

Well i was born in the wrong era then! I remember my Dad catching nowt and he fished in the 80's. He must have been useless :D

he was not useless, there was good years and bad years, lol but more fish came to the scales then and you could catch even when it was flat in many places. but now most of the time you need a good sea to get a good bag if you are lucky,or you scratch about for 1 or 2 fish when its flat:)
