As you may of noticed I had the weekend off fishing this week allowing me to catch up on so many things ....... it's surprising how fishing from 4am to 4pm on a Saturday kind of writes off a lot of other weekend tasks
.
Of course all this was on the understanding that I had a couple of days off this week so Fishing was resumed on Monday
What a day ... phew, you dont get any better than this ...... .
With a work collegue (Alan) as stand in cabin boy we had a leisurly start of 6.00am to fall in line with bottom of the tide.
Was strange to be going aboard in full daylight and not needing the torch to check oil levels and find odds and ends
... still, out the marina and promptly filled up with diesel in the knowledge that as it was such a nice forecast we would go for a little more distance than the usual day out.
We had had a good trip on some distant south wrecks last weekend so we set out to return to these and maybe push a little further.
The sun shone, the sea stayed as flat as .............. (fill in your own version
) but it was flat ....
, the mackerel played game perfectly with an abundance when you wanted them but rarely foul hooking them when you didn't ... just the right amount, we took 5 for starters for bait then began in earnest for the cod. .....
It was just Fish Fish Fish all day .....
No real hot spots today but we constantly took equal numbers on the chosen wrecks then moved a few mile further south where again we took cod of varing sizes, we decided to come back in a little as winding up 7lb cod from 300ft is no easy task
Can't believe what a good day it was for all round (and all the better to take a friend out and hit weather, conditions and fish all together)
We caught on everything we tried but without doubt shads ruled the day with I think white ones coming off slightly better than the rest.
Alan is a keen freshwater fisherman but I think we may have just surprised him today as to how good sea fishing and especially boat fishing can be, and also how haed working it can be to get out, fish, get back in fillet the catch then return the boat back to its original condition ready for the next trip.
No doubles for us today but all in all we kept some 30 cod between the two of us, all, as has been the case this season, good clean fish in the range 4lb to 7lb with maybe a couple nudging 8lb ......
Although we ventured further afield today than normal the actual distance travelled was not excessive due to so many fish in the target area without having to hunt for them we covered only some 48 miles in total with 36 of this being the get to and return from distances ......
Many Thanks to cabin boy of the day ..... Alan
(Tony we could have stayed longer for more but left some for you for the next trip
)
As ever a few pics of the day ........
Rather than a sunrise start how about a typical view of the day .......
As Flat as .............
In Transit .......
(sunglasses before 7.00am)
Mackerel starters .....
Cod on cue for Alan ..
And a little one for myself ... (look at the background ... unbelievable)
One for Al that felt like a double .... we've all been there
And they keep coming ...
And more ..... (again the sea .... whoa brilliant)
it don't get much better ........ and of course it's monday and all our other collegues are at work .... class
the finale .......
Great Day ... many thanks to Alan for the company ...... hope yous enjoyed the read ...
Roll on the next perfect day ....
cheers
