A windy day - 29 Aug

My brother-in-law was staying for a few days, and being an angler, albeit mostly coarse fishing, he was keen to get afloat, but was returning home on the Friday, so we we took him out on the understanding that it would be lumpy. And lumpy it was. The wind blew hard all day, giving a fast drift across the surface of the water, but down below the surface, it was only a very small tide, so little actual current. Not a great day for bait presentation.

We went north from Amble, hugging the coast for protection, and found several places where we could fish, especially in the morning, but we could not entice much apart from small codling, coalies and pollack. The good news is that there were lots of large mackerel around, and we twice got to see dolphins. Apart from that, it was thin pickings. We'll try again tomorrow, but sadly for brother-in-law, he had to take the train from Durham today and could not stay on.
