Season Over

oh dont get me wrong i will be out when it warms up west coast and east coast marks hopefully loaded with fresh crab target a few species maybe south too for smoothhounds and rays

Well I can't complain at all about my season it's been great:) sorry for being positive lol
my gear is away now been sortin the boat stuff out lookin forward to it like you would not believe and the odd trip across to west coast after pollock etc crack open the sun cream:D:D

whilst the cod fishing on the north east coast has not been one of the best in recent years, there has been a few notable exceptions where people have had decent sessions, nevertheless with the fantastic seas we have had it should have been better, the one good point i have noticed is the good number of small tommy codling that have been caught, that can only bode well for the future.

im sticking it out for a bit yet, still some big uns kicking about and Im going to try to get one:rolleyes::rolleyes:.
I fancy having a go for some summer cod as well, never really tried it yet

with a snapped rod its the end for me too, although i cant complain despite missing a month and a half i still managed to pull over 40 out and get a new p.b .
looking forward to fishing in a t shirt with the sun on my back for wrasse pollock & reddies

roll on the summer, havent been out as much as i want this winter but the fish have been playing hide n seek with me.was full of optimism for the winter season n looking forward to some good catches that never came.
summers gota be better.

was full of optimism for the winter season...

aye me too :(

The fishing isn't the halcyon days of yore when all we had to do, apparently, was to drop a line in the water round these parts and walk away with 20+ fish and a double guaranteed - but it is what it is and there are fish out there to be caught; and the better anglers prove that they can still be caught in numbers

Don't get me wrong - although personally I've had a very ordinary season I put that down to my lack of knowledge than there being no fish out there

Got to remember there are lads on this forum and in the clubs that have had a boom season by all accounts so I don't subscribe to the theory that the fish aren't there

Thats exactly how I feel, what keeps me going is seeing what the lads on this forum are catching and where. I havent done well this year but hopefully i 'm learning for next.
going out with a mate next week to learn about trout fishing as he says at least you know there are fish there you just have to catch them.

I've found by adopting an attitude of when i leave the house, to spend either the day or a few hours by the coast i'm already onto a winner. It just so happens that i take along with me my fishing gear, this gives me something to do while i'm out, enjoying being by the sea. If i catch its a bonus and if i blank? Well i've still had a nice day out.

hi hav,nt read all replies but this thread comes up every year naturaly about now.

this is the time of the year and the next few months can be very rewarding as it has for me in the past.

i write the same replies to this thread every year if you not out there trying you wont catch out. had sone very good catches with frozen crab newbiggen area /river tyne etc.

with fresh crab more readily available now as unlike years ago it is an xtra bonus .

yes i am talking years ago here but i can remember a 22lb cod one day in march hawthorn point and one 10lb the week previous.

i also have had over 30 cod one easter weekend fish up to 6lb.

give up if you wish, but fish will be there crab does come into its own soon.
