What is the best rod available suitable for a fixed spool reel? I currently have a sonik sk3 but fancy something a bit better quality. I have a century kompressor s with penn mag 525 but struggling to use it.

why not add a cannon or thumbutton and use a fixed spool wqith the kompressor? i use the fixed spoo (if i do npw n again) in thw low postion. or better still why not just re-ring ur kompressor s to fixed spool setup ?

Sound advice, your rod can then be utilised for both types of reel at a fraction of the cost.

a fixed spool can be used on a multiplier rod with out to much loss of distance maybe a few feet

however a multiplier reel can not be used a fixed spool rod or so i was told

so the compressor should be fine if you stick it out mate

i was using my fixed spool on my ignitor prior to rebuild and the casting was the same
on the par of the reels

My dad (aka growler) uses a Zziplex ZF250 rung for fixed spool with a 7ht and has done for a few years now.. He can still hit a decent distance, and seems to think it has had no negative effect on his casting.. Not bad for a 74 year old!

Its just his opinion, as we all differ in views im sure other's will say the complete opposite! All i know is he's been fishing over 60 years and still catches his fair share.. :D has been a good source of info for me since i picked up a rod! :)

Ive just got a cheap f/s rod at the minute which i started out with a fixed spool reel and was going to upgrade the rod, after looking at quite a few I almost got a Leeda assassin, but... I've started using a multiplier now ( on my f/s rod!) so upgrading to a multiplier rod instead.

I might still get one of the assassin's at some point though, they look really good for f/s rods, there's a review here ( the come in 12, 13, or 15ft).
