Only One Days Fishing

A friend and I are working in the North East next week, but have managed to con a day off on Wednesday 17th May :)

As we have no knowledge at all of the fishing in the North East, could you please advise where would be the best place to while away our day off a pier, or from a boat?

We would also need to know the what the best baits are for the area plus where to buy them (only got one day, dont want to spend it digging!)

Thx in advance for your suggestions, will be leaving tomorrow night for the journey up from the South Coast, so replies before Sunday 21:00 would be muchly appreciated.

Sid

Not a great time of year to be fishing on our coast mate. Was out at South Shields last night and only managed littluns lol.

There is a pier at Blyth which is not too far from you but not too good right now. South Shields pier might produce a few fish and so might Roker pier at Sunderland, if it is open.

Most used baits up here would be Ragworm (seems to be catching about best at the moment) Crab (fresh or frozen) Lugworm, Runnydown, Squid, Mussel and Mackeral. They all have their moments.

Anything else just ask, I am sure some of the lads will add some more to this.

Jim.

Thx Willywetegg for the info - I assume all the coastal towns have tackle and Bait shops.

I know this isnt the correct forum, but i didnt want to spam by posting the same in 2 forums, I am also interested in any boats that may go out in the region

Sid

You can get bait at Frasers tackle shop in Gateshead ,it\'s on Coatsworth Road ,not too far away and if you speak to Mark he\'ll help you out with any advice ,sadly as Jim says it\'s a poor time of year ,you could always try the river as there\'s always flatties lurking .
Frasers is open till 12 tomorrow phone number 4775950

Sid if you go into the boat fishing section mate at the top of the page theres a whole list of charter boats to choose from it will cost you around 25quid each for a days fishing but you won\'t be disapointed if you ring one try the jfk as it has been doing well recently.
As jim says the shorefishing has been poor recently so probably best to get out on the boats mate ;)
Hope this helps

You wanna know something.

I have been on many forums in my time, but I can honestly say that this is the best, informative and friendly ones I have ever been on!!!

Many many thx for all your suggestions, keep them coming as I have until 9pm tomorrow night before I leave the comp behind.

I will visit the boat section now :D

Have just had a catch report from two mates that fished on it today 11 of them went out this morning at 8am in very rough conditions they managed 9 fish between them the heaviest 8lb the same boat has been pulling in up to 60fish in calmer conditions they were only able to get about three mile out today.
Hope this helps

Jonny - would love to move to the North East, but \"she who must be obeyed\" would never see me as I would be out drowning worms all the time, and I dont want to tangle with her - I WOULD LOSE !!

:)

Well said Jonny.

Sid we have members from all over the country mate not to mention the world lol. Where on the south coast are you from.

Jim.

Not the Coast (although God knows I would love to live beside teh sea)!

But.... I am just south of Bath, so I have within 1½ hours of me, Chesil Beach, Poole, Weymouth, Burnham, Avonmouth. So not a bad choice :)
