Well after a disappointing cancelled tope trip at the weekend it was time to get back on the NE coast and fish the wrecks.

Early start today due to the weather forecast showing East winds building as the day when on, so i met up with Chris and we cleared the piers at 06:10am to a smooth sea, sunshine and no wind at all.

We started off on a few wrecks close in but the water was very dirty and we only managed a small ling. We moved to a few others abit further out and hit some fresh mackerel....well you all now what fresh mackerel is?....ling bait :)

Mackerel cut up, fresh bait down and bang yes, a ling about 5lb for me and the same for Chris then next drift bang again, rod bends over and my reel that is always set to the same drag setting and not often needs to be pushed past my set point was useless, could not get any line back on it so increased the drag and started to wind.

After a couple of mins and a few good dives etc a nice ling of 16lb 8oz hit the surface looking angry, so i was happy with the this seasons new biggest fish for the boat and the leader in the RQ fish comp.

I look forward to going to Norway in a week when any fish under 20lb is just not worth landing on the boat, so this mear near 17lber was good to get the arm working again :)

I decided after that, that i would spend today working on more ling but i struggled to get to the ling for the cod, witha better stamp of fish to 6lb

Chris was after the cod and kept catching ling on lures only and i had bait...dont figure err :)

The sea, drift and weather was great and we moved around many wrecks with a long spell of nothing around mid-day but cruising in such a flat sea at 23knots was great fun.

We plugged away taken more ling upto 6lb and more cod the same but no more doubles, then i decided to try a wreck that i had not fished for some time and it was packed with pollack, ling and cod, me and Chris dug in taken a fish or two a drift for about an hour.

By this time it was about 3pm and the sea was lifting due to the met office being bang on again just 1hr late on the wind. So we headed home after a canny day out.

Cod,ling, pouting, coalie, mackerel, pour cod and pollack landed today.

Until Friday :)

thanks richy for a cracking day at sea.
weather watching for Saturday now.
cracking ling but it was an ugly looking thing

Magic day afloat Rich, it doesn't get much better than that. Great report and pics. That fish should hold top place for a while. Good call.

Nice Ling Richy :-) God bless mackerel ;-)

Good luck in Norway. Will be hoping you can find me a double when you get back :-)

Well done Richy. We fished Whitby yesterday and Richie the skipper concentrated on wrecks due to the good tides. Unfortunately we struggled. Water seemed to be full of green algae and Rich was saying this might have had an effect.
Mick.
