what is a very good line at the moment as i have tryed these ones and this is what i find.

sakuma night crystal 18lb = nice colour / snaps to easy under a little pressure and any rub aganst it bye bye line.

Berkley XTS Saltw@ter 25lb = very good line i thought till after a small snagg u pull free but when winding in the line has went from red to a pink colour indicating to me a stretch after 3 casts and seems to have small fray bits on line in places.

berkley big game 20 -25lb =currently using this and so far seems to work well snaggs pulls out fast carnt see any stretch in line and seems to be ok when pulling past rocks etc as dont get the fray like other lines.

i use a penn 525 and 515 mag 2's and wont use braid on them.

so just out of intrest what do people use when using mono, as im looking for some more line but dont want to waste money.

cheers for any reply

Sufix all the way when I was on the mono.

Daiwa sensor and trilene are my favourites.

I have reel loaded with some Awa Shima Monster line. The stated breaking strain is very over rated and I've only used it for a couple of trips so I'm still undecided but so far it's been ok. The one thing with it though is you have to be careful with your knots.

Has anyone been using this Asso line? Just wondering if it's ok.

Ian.

I have that xts on my fathom and I find it stretches like. Could do with a new line myself for my fathom like. Just bought some Daiwa 35lb for my saltist on the cliffs etc

IMO best mono out there is Daiwa ST tourney by a mile, much better than F1. Great for chucking and it doesn't scuff easily. pricey though at around £15 though you can get it online for around £13 a spool. 20lb is 0.37 dia. Not many stock it locally.

teklon gold

teklon gold

av just put teklon gold on my diawa ld 20 just under the 42 pound breaking strain, and the diameter is 0.40 witch is probs on par with 20 to 25 pound trilene's diameter,i think the 50 lb teklon 0.45,, perfect for the smaller reel's and it cast's spot on ,probs could get away with shock leader 50 and above and still get plenty on the smaller reel nothing worse than weed sticking to ya shock leader knot,,it all come on 300 meter spools, well worth a look,,

Asso is mint didn't think I would ever stop using big game but I found last winter the asso was miles better it cast better, it's smoother and it's very good when rubbing on rocks.

Suffix tritanium. Good diameter as well, think the 24lb is 0.40, ideal for 525 size reel

Yup, my number one choice - also Daiwa Tournament I find excellent (but buy by diameter rather than breaking strain) but a bit more pricey.

It's getting it that's the problem agree brilliant line.

With the demise of my tackle shop last year I was facing the same problem, but found some at Bagnall's in Grey Street, a tenner a spool. I did notice however that I no longer get 600m of the 0.5mm - now it's only 550m so had to add a bit of backing to get three fills on my Saltist 30s. It's the first time I've used the newly branded stuff, my favourite (the red) was discontinued some time ago, although I still have a couple of spools of the 15lb / 0.35mm stuff - I plumped for the yellow & we'll see if it's still as good.

Gary :)

ok i think i am going to try the Suffix tritanium on one reel and the asso hard skin on another and see what they are like.

cheers for all comments guys its nice to know what is good out there and what is poor.

if you can get it Stren Stamina is a great line for heavy ground fishing.. excellent abrasion resistence and strength, just hard to source.

Berkley trilene/big game or Diawa sensor/tournament has stood me well
