Kayos on North Star

Having woken up to pouring rain we wondered what today would hold? But with no wind, I was confident. As Lynn drove down the A19 and Hartlepool drew nearer my confidence was waning thinking about fishing with Rob(Easyfish), ) Steve (Stevie-r) and Duncan(Lingking), and Jim at the helm, but what I could I do,? So I put on my game face and headed to the boat. Haven't seen most of them for 2 years so it was good to catch up. Two parties on today, the NESA folk down one side and the SAGA folk down the other.................which was company for Duncan. :)

We headed east for 1.5 hours and the water was like glass and humid. I swithered about what to fish first with, all sorts of ideas to do my own thing, but when we gt to the mark I bottled it and put on baited hokkai's! A few Mackerel on the way down for us every now and then and the usual small Whiting. Then, bang a decent bite on my rod and I hooked up! Hoped for a good Cod, but actually it was a Ling just shy of 6lbs, the first keeper of the day on the boat and I had caught it......................unbelievable eh? 10 minutes later Lynn had a Cod about 3lbs and we were the only 2 on the boat with keepers! I then decided to change to a "Slinky Kate Shad" courtesy of Norman and first drop a good take, resulting in my first Cod (4lbs) in ages, so thanks so much Norman!

Had a wee break for a sandwich and the SAGA folk got four or five decent Cod. Steve then got a small Ling and Rob caught a nice Cod about 5lbs. He then proceeded to boat 3 Ling and took the lead in the imaginary prize draw! Jim had certainly put us on the fish and I was feeling really confident that we were in for a great day. Then out of nowhere the wind got up as did the swell and fishing got uncomfortable. Conditions just got progressively worse and we all agreed that we needed to head for home, as did all the other boats around us. Has no one told the weather Gods it's friggin July!!??

So, so disappointed as we only got about 2 odd hours fishing, but Jim had done us proud to find the fish and we had some good chat in the cabin on the way home.

With the day truncated Rob had 4, me 2 and Lynn and Steve 1 each. Duncan? Well Duncan very generously became me for the day, which was kind of him!

He was out yesterday on North Star and caught a few Cod and Ling, so not a disaster for him.

Thanks to Jim and also to Norman for his "magic" shads! :)

Lynn's is titchy one at the back that you can hardly see!

Got rough so Lynn had a quick kip.

Only 1 charter left, so the weather better be windless and we catch plenty before having to head home!!

However it was so good to finally catch a couple and I'm off to update my catch signature 2014!!

Great pics, great report, nice meeting up with you both again, just a pity the weather changed so quickly, the way the fishing was going we were heading for a cracking day.

Well done on not blanking Mark and Lynn :) things are on the up...:)

That Rob is a bit of a dark horse mind.....:exclam:;)

Aye but it was a pyrrhic victory Chris, as I think Rob had shot his bolt and I was jut getting started!

Not that I am a bad loser of course! :red:

Great stuff mark and Lynn well done

Norm :)

Had another great bite Noman, but some one on the other side of the boat snagged me up and I lost it. It took the tail clean off the shad! Thanks again so much for giving me them.

We still have Wednesday to try them again :)

PS Blue shad with attached jighead.

the fish gods are English...;)

Ahhh Victory....

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;

Or close the wall up with our English dead.

In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man

As modest stillness and humility:

But when the blast of war blows in our ears,

Then imitate the action of the tiger;

Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,

Disguise fair nature with hard-favour’d rage......;)

thanks all for a grand day out....

Well done Mark & Lynn

Brought a smile to my face this morning reading your catch report, a good read, well done.
Albeit a short trip but you both took fish and things are looking up.
Things WILL only get better.
Don't lose faith and fill your boots on your next trip.

Nice fishing Mark, shame we could not have met I was out the Friday with Jim
Or should I say I was in the cabin suffering from the worst bout of seasickness I have ever experienced…
Thought you would have had a belting day with the weather easing off, I was fishing the beach for mackerel was flat as a pancake at Horden what a difference a dozen miles makes

Nice to see you got a few fish Mark & Lynn, it looks like another NE visit and the bl00dy weather hasn't been too kind again......... but thats fishing i suppose.

best of luck for next time
Paul

We have one left yet Paul, so not all over 'til the fat lady sings! :)

Some encouraging words by me!

I think Wednesday will be OK.

The tide is back to normal size and you will have the ebbtide virtually throughout the morning. You will get a fair bit of drifts over those wrecks and should nail it this time.
Also Wednesdays are nice, because there are not numerous boats out.

The big mackerel flapper around slack low in the early afternoon will get you the long awaited double figure fish.

Good Luck, Mate

Nobody deserves it more than you an Lynn !!!
