With Good old Fearless Fred at the helm, we left the Marina prompt 7.30am just as the Sunrise began, into a beautiful crisp morning with a calm sea but with a forecast of wind to pick up later during the day.
We searched for the elusive Mackerel which we thought we would need for slack water, while they were small in numbers on the various marks Fred took us too, they were very good size and soon had enough to go on with.
We tried a wreck to start with, but I think everybody donated equipment to the wreck god on every drift, so Fred moved us off to a patch of ground.
Nice move our “FRED”
First drift over and just about every rod bent into action, all exceptionally clean fresh run fish came aboard with the best on that first drift, a nice plump 10lb fish caught by Jamie from Wakefield.
This continued for a least an hour and a half until a very unpredictable wind began to pick up earlier than expected and threw the boat in all kinds of directions, but we still managed to take fish from all areas of the spot Fred had dropped us on.
Best for me on the day pushed 9lb, taking 12 fish in total with the smallest 4lb, Overall on the day at least 100 fish were landed on the boat, 8 doubles best to 13lb from one of our Polish anglers.
Both these lads fished very well on the day and took home between them at least 30 fish.
The Ling today proved more elusive than the Mackerel with only 3 fish coming aboard to about 7lb.
The mark slowly quieted down and the drift began to gain pace, but fish were still been caught on ground well off the mark, Chris, Steve and Jay kept a steady flow of fish coming onboard, and there were some nice coalfish that came on to about 5lb once we left the main area.
An excellent hectic session that yielded fish ranging from 4lb to 13lb
We moved again as the mark tired, with the forecasted wind starting to make an appearance, we all thought a early finish was on the cards, but we tried and were not disappointed, fish still coming over the rail, not in the same quantity but steady, then Fred took a double double, with lovely fish of 12lb and 10lb in quick succession.
The wind then decided to disappear, so we tried a wreck and Jay at the stern brought in a cracking 10lb fish to bring his tally to 15 for the day.
We moved to a piece of rough ground for the final half hour before heading home after what a lot of us didn’t expect, an excellent days fishing, Thanks again Fred, and on a personal note, after fishing Hartlepool all season, something says this season might continue for a few more weeks to come, bearing in mind all 3 skippers I have fished with this year on "FAMOUS" have performed absolutely brilliantly and earned their Gold Stars.
Loaded up the van for a steady drive home back to sunny Blyth and began my favourite job of cleaning the fish, I just love it.
Until the next time lads, Tight Lines
