Twelve adults, including our Lady member Ang, attended To fish Hendon Prom on the Sat 21st December 2013 between 1400hrs and 1800hrs,for our last Comp of the year, fishing an incoming tide.
A lot of the lads thought the open sea would be unfishable due to the strong winds, but upon arrival at the location, turned out to be ideal location with a little shelter from the grassy banks and a lot of colour present in the water.
A few of the lads chose the Bandstand area, a few chose the second Bay, with the rest in between the two.
The lads at the bandstand were into a few Flatties from the off during daylight, along with a few from the Second Bay, most falling to rag tipped with maki.
As the wind arrived from the South, it soon put a nice bit of movement onto the water and gave the hope that a few cod would show, as darkness came.
Jason Pool at the Second Bay with his Dad Dave, was constantly into the Flatties throughout but nothing of great size, and the lads at the Bandstand had now slowed down, this signalled the start of the fish showing for the lads in the middle with some canny 30cm Flatties showing along with a 35cm whitey.
Around 1630hrs Ian Ainsley landed a nice 42cm Codling taken on Blacks/whites taking him ahead of Jason on the score card, but shortly soon afterwards Alan Lunn also landed one of 41cm in length, which took rag n maki ,taking him ahead of the field.
Mick Dunn appeared to be struggling looking for the "BIG ONE" with his Pennel Rigs loaded with his Fav Ragworm, and it looked like yet another Comp Blank was on the cards, but as soon as The competitors heard the call of a Wildman, they all knew Mick had finally caught, and he soon presented the scorer with a 30cm Flounder, "No Blank for Me" he shouted.
It was looking like Alan Lunn was going to take the Aggregate Bag prize when he then landed another Cod, this time a 43cm one,as well as joint biggest fish until ten minutes from time and Ian landed another Codling, this time 46cms taking the honours.
Oh how Mick Dunn curled up and cried......
It turned out to be a canny little Comp with all the lads happy with the location and the added bonus of fishing out the back of your Car.
Sad point was,as she was attending the location Ang was involved in a minor accident with her car, and an Old Boy trying to blame her even though he was driving on her side of the road!! she couldn't get her head into the Comp and had to leave to sort out her insurance.
All fish were measured and scored using SAMF chart before being released apart from the larger Cod which went home with Dave Pool for his tea.

Takes some getting use to Geordie but was flying out. See what you mean when you said you feel every nod on the retrieve with a codling on !

Wrong approach again. Big pulley rigs loaded with rag, Blacks, failed to find the big one but I was trying for a 6lb plus. Sea looked ideal- Luckily managed a Flounder on a two hook flapper I later put out with rag and mackerel which save me from the blank.
I get my Penn 8000 xmas day and will defo be trying it. At mo loaded with 20 lb braid but will get some 65lb Berkley whiplash for Norway.
Mick.

Shame it finished when it did, just as the cod came in. There was some decent fish making an appearance. Poor Ang, it knocked her end in for sure.
