Cod season nearly over

Can't say I'm that bothered the season is almost over everyone I speak with is doom & gloom cos its past it's peak.......
All I'm thinking about, now that Iv got back inTo sea fishing after a long break is:
Peeler collecting sessions
Conger fishing at cairnryan breakers yard
Thornback rays from Drummore
Port Logan for smoothhound on fresh peeler
Ardwell bay for some lovely 2lb red gurnard (tastiest fish I've ever eaten)
Going to invest in a sea kayak for some hard to reach pollock marks that usually give up 15lb + fish but only accessible by boat
The list goes on & on & on
For me the season is just starting roll on April!
Why did I ever take a break from fishing????
 
Cod seasons never over for me. I cant understand these people that put their gear away for the summer. In my opinion their missing out on some brilliant fishing for cod during the summer months. The only difference being the weather is more clemant.

Not just the Cod. Bass, Plaice, Pollock, Dogfish (ok, not everyones cup of tea) and for those willing to travel a bit Smoothhound and Ray as well. Personally I can't wait now for the weather to warm up and to be fishing in shorts and a polo shirt, the lads with the cod goggles who put the gear away every spring don't know what they're missing out on (but it leaves more room for the rest of us :D )

Absolutly mate, I love the summer for everything you mention as well.

your so right, nice warm day up craster, spinning for pollock up at the castle in the morning, then back to the car in the afternoon to collect me beach caster then move onto cullernose point with me live crab, cannot wait....

its nice to get a bit sun on ya back been a long winter pluss you dont have to worry about bait as much bit rag crab sandeel and ya set
 
I go fishing any time of the year its a day out and each day is a bonus for me
sea fishing or trout fishing.
you brave the wind rain snow and cold in the winter :(

think theres nowt better than sitting on roker pier or shields pier during the summer months or on some beach fishing waiting for ya rod tip to go (fish on)
 
I'm with you all the way there Dale . Plus i hope the cod seasons not over yet as iv not caught one yet ! lol :). They do say that God loves a trier ! obviously he's ignoring me :rolleyes:

couldent agree more some of the best cod fishing at eyemouth,beadnell.seahouses in the summer,any one who has struggled to catch a cod should get them selves up to one of these marks may onwards with some fresh peeler crab no long casting needed as short lobs more productive.cod average 3lb to 4lb. still cod about when sea comes away on our local marks. davy.
 
I've only been at this fishing lark for a few months. Looking forward to fishing all year round and targeting a few different fish through the warmer months.

I really enjoy reading up and watching tutorials on different species, what baits, rigs, marks to use. Tintetnet is an amazing resource for all that and I've picked up loads from NESA so thanks to those who share tips and advice.

your only a couple of miles from seahouses,beadnell. get yourself up there in the summer best on a warm sunny day on a small tide,best during the week as a lot of clubs have matchs at the w/e,you wont be disappointed have taken juniors 12 and 13 years old who have caught cod at 20 30yards and are hooked for life. davy.

beadnel point my favourite mark, or snook a bit further south:)

funny mark beadnel pt. takes some getting used to. and the snook, a good cast sometimes pays off here when it starts to flood. couple of lads I know always do well from these places in the comps.

looking forward to the summer:) I'll be trying the these this year and maybe the emblestones
 
Might be a stoopid question so keep the flamage to a minimum.
Fishing in the dark is better for feeding cod and so far it's pretty much all I've done other than a few afternoons on the pier with my lad. Is it still better to fish after dark all year round or is daylight still ok. Not going to get a tan fishing at night.
