Blyth pier last night (3rd July)

I got a text from Keith yesterday asking if I could manage a spot of fishing, quickly sorted a bit gear out and met him at half six. Had a slow walk along the pier and bumped into Lee (5150) nice to see you mate. The end was manic, I was going to say busy but no it was manic lol so we fished just short of there. We could see a few Mackerel coming in but not in great numbers. It was a bit chilly when we got there and continued to get colder as the night went on so the end slowed down to just busy. Keith managed a couple of Mackerel but despite more and more coming in all the time from the end, I never managed one. There were quite a few Coley's caught while we were there too, it's ages since I saw them come in in numbers like that. As the night went on there seemed to be more Mackerel being caught which surprised me as the water was more than just choppy.

We left not long after nine as we both were just wearing t shirts and the chilly had turned to cold lol. Keith was starting to shiver and I was about the same when we got back to the car. My temperature guage was showing 13 degrees but I have been warmer on the same beach in February. It was still 16 when I got back to Consett just after 10 o clock, who says it is always cold there :D :D

The usual mess was on the pier but certainly no worse than during the winter. There is always one halfwit that packs his rubbish neatly into a carrier bag and then continues to fasten it to the pier before he goes home, what is that all about?????? It is something I have seen since I first started fishing, a litterer with a conscience perhaps :casstet::casstet::casstet: maybe just their way of dealing with the guilt. I would say that apart from the empty Fosters cans there was definately no more rubbish that what is there during the winter.

Well I've not been out in ages and now that I know I can manage the slow walk along the pier I will be back again soon, hopefully with a few Mackerel :D :D

PS I will tell you what yours tasted like later today Keith. :D :D :D

Jim.

Aye, was nice to see you guys. End was a joke at times, it'll end in serious tears if they continue like that throughout the summer.

Lee I have seen a couple of nasties in there mate, one lad got his beachcaster snapped by an idiot and the other was a guy on his way to hospital to have a hook removed from the top of his cheek as we were going on one day.

The guy who had his beachcaster snapped wasn't even mackerel fishing and the silly old git that did it had squeezed into a space next to him that wasn't there. He was warned twice about his dangerous casting, which he ignored, then when he broke the lads rod he didn't even say sorry. The lad told me he had it insured and was a lot calmer than I would have been :D :D

Jim.

Cheers Jim, hope you enjoy the mackeral and hope your legs aren't too sore.

Nice to meet you Lee.

It doesn't matter how warm it is in future I'll never venture along the pier without a coat or sweater, I was still cold when I got home, had to down some chilled carlsberg to warm myself up :D

Cheers Mick, we will probably bump into each other loads of times then see nothing of each other for ages lol.

Keith, I had goosebumps on my arms till I got in the house. I had the air con on all the way to Blyth but it wasn't on going home lol. The legs are'nt half as bad as I thought they would be mate.

Jim.

me and kela66 were on there last night, i thought that was keith but wasn't sure, we fished to the right of you's for a while then we chanced it on the end. ill be putting a report on later.

Nice to see you both out. It was 24 degrees here at 10 last night. Was just thinking of the last time I was on Blyth pier and I can only remember winning one of Heaton Grammar's fishing comps, aged 11, so in 1966. Remember bagging up with flatties. Don't know if I could find my way on now.

Lol Davey, I have my NESA badge on my wooly hat and I left it in the car as it was so warm    :D :D

David you would still find your way on, the road might have changed a bit cosmetically but it's still in the same place mate. It is 16 degrees here now and raining but the humidity is terrible. Just been up to Consett to get a prescripion and had to wear a fleece and baseball cap, I was like a damp rag coming home in the car lol.

Coddy I think that is my first trip out since November mate, It won't be my last though, aching a bit today but it's worth it I think lol.

Jim.

Well done on getting out Jim...am heading down myself in a few minutes, don't think it'll be ideal for macky but I'm taking some rag as well and am gonna float fish for coalies...if nowt else it's fresh air :)

Well done Jim - before long you won't have to go very far along the pier anyway to find the fish:D. Think we could all do with a hat badge as I'm sure I must have passed a few from here recently - and bound to in the near future!

Gary :)

PS. those who fish the pier a lot know it has it's own micro-climate - never underestimate how cold it can get on there!!

Hope you are having a good night Tony.

Gary, your not wrong about the piers micro climate mate, as soon as you walk around the corner of the wall it's like a different world.

Jim.

I've got to say I admire the persistence of everyone who keeps fishing blyth regularly, I had one session last summer that saw me off completely, and nothing that bad happened, just general unpleasantness from socially inept ***kers and little kids with seemingly very little respect for anyone else. keep it up, sounds like it's picking up over there. don't think I'll be heading over any time soon though..
