hello to everyone :), just bought a new rod and reel today so so im a novice to proper sea angling (did some coarse fishing when i was a young un) can anyone recommend a mark near newcastle where i would stand a decent chance of catching something (anything except crabs/cold) ?? . sorry if this a daft question . many thanks

Why not try the more quiet marks around the river/estuary area first, this way you will get aquainted with your rod, reel and rigs, casting etc...iam sure here in the spring you could catch flatties. i dont know the tyne area, but i use to catch lots of big flounders april/may/june on peeler-crab in the River-wear from hylton(motorway bridge) and pavillion down to sunderland bridge. another good thing you should do is search this site for old posts about marks around the tyne area. tight lines mate :D

:)Welcome Kela, if you are just starting off why not try fishing by the copthorne, or sea restaurant then gradually move down the river fishing friars goose , Hebburn marina, Jarrow park, Davy bank on the north side, and work your way down to the sea and the pier, rock shots :)

davy bank is now fenced off so you cant fish there, thats another canny mark gone.

thanks again for the reply's, went to the tyne & tried the section a bit futher along from spillers next to the boat club, cast out some rag worm and within 10 mins i had hooked a little codling :) , lost another 2 and missed a few bites ,but all in all a great 1st outing
