bad news

well just been informed that the 29 stone was actually 39 that was sold at market this included 2 boxes of bass yess BASS.3 boxes of pollock yes POLLOCK.the rest was cod yes COD.
the rest of the haul which did not go to market was half the 39 stone and that was sold privetly.
he the owner has just returned from working away and intends on setting the nets again tonight 9.1.08.
as with the quota system i agree and disagree but thats the government for you.untill this is sorted out this overfishing will just continue.movibg on to the pots well speaking to some of the boats who do this for a living reported they were getting good catches of fish from the pots,so this will also have a detrimental affect on us all.if tim insists on this sort of overfishing thats his proogative but needs to be carefull as stated in another post by another user this is were he gets his wage from.
he also stated catch and release as did some others, bag limits and the like.
look at one of the opens last year they had a flatty limit on and size limit for the flats.what happened was they lost the match anglers, they didnt want to fish with that in place.
look what happened at the sea-league finals which was catch and release with recordings.
an angler from this area marked and signed another anglers card from down south, then when he returned home 2wks latter he receaved a letter with the results.guess what yes your right the points he had marked had gone up from 30 points to 42 points.a 12 point difference.this was taken up with the guy in charge who told thie angler from up here that he must of missed calculated the points.after further investigation the angler from down south had 12 points deducted from his score card.

There is also to be a televised debate regarding the angling license on SE Today at 6.30pm which will be available to veiw online and for a period after that. Its between Leon Roskilly (against) and Alan Yates (For)...should be an intresting one. I will try put up a link to watch online.

Myself making a case against the licence and Alan Yates for the licence.

I don't know how the cutting will go!

I think you've misinterpreted some peoples posts a little - I don't think anyone has agreed with overfishing...what people HAVE said is that some Anglers are a bit hypocritical to assume all the blame lies at the commercial fishermans door

Your original post was about the (possibly illegal?) netter...which no one is denying is detrimental to the shore fishing in that immediate vicinity...problem is if he is acting legally then there is nowt to stop him. Ethics don't even come into the equation if it's legal business and I'd be very surprised if he gives a monkeys about the feelings of the shore angler.

There obviously is a problem if it is illegal and nothing is being done about it

believe me wallsendo he is legal.he has just bought a boat for £100 grand.
but he does not do this full time.more to the point is when he lands fish on the market what is not landed???.

WOW…. I come home from work to find Ryanlee has decided I insist on promoting gill netting 300yards from the shore, oh and thanks for the advice about being careful!!!!
Let me try to set the record straight just in case rayanlee decides to put more words in my mouth so to speak.
It would be wonderful if there were no commercial fishing in the sea and anglers had exclusive rights to big cod with no greedy nets men to take them away!
To achieve this we as anglers have to accept some responsibility for diminishing fish stocks and work to achieve a sustainable fishing policy that covers both commercial and recreational fishing! Commercial fishing is here to stay unless we stop eating fish, and until it is illegal to fish close inshore (where the fish are) it will continue. So write to your MP and get the law changed, but don’t blame a man for making money, and don’t blame a man who works in a tackle shop simply because he acknowledges that we have a small fishing fleet on the north east coast!

I recorded and watched the article Leon, also noted with interest the article at the end, cod quotas increased from 100kg to 1000kg per month

not just me tim.read the other posts.
i asked you a question about what you wrote about,i.e fish being thrown away and people catching 20-30lb bags of whiting in opens and also wasting these.have you any proof or records tim.if you read from the 1st post you can see it was started as a thread to let others no what was happening with the netters.surely you must agree tim that when fish are being caught from the shore you make money in the shop.when there is very little or none i susspect not many spend money.i also agree the netters and trawlers are here and will stay no matter what we ask.a golden mile or 2 would be good enought for everyone.at least that way the commercial lads can still make a good living and us shore anglers stand a chance of catching fish.

I tried to watch it ...but not being rich enough to have sky I relied on the internet...

Clicked on the link on the right and all I found out is where my prostrate is!!

Any chance of a direct link now its been shown?

Cheers

Just watched it....the Licensing issue seems to have leant heavily toward the "against" argument...I don't know how long these interviews went on for but Alan Yate's "opinion" was pretty scant...prob on the editing room floor as per Leons earlier comment

On the fish quota video - the boats saying the fish are "there"...of course they're "there" when you target EVERYTHING THAT SWIMS ...but they won't be for much longer...sweet lordy what a short sighted view

I saw the discards video...noticed them filming the return of a few boxes of fish back to the sea...

Now watch that carefully and play a game of spot the cod within those discards...there is not many.

I can vouch for leons comments about what is edited out. Myself and Stephen took part in the filming of a video. They filmed for 4 1/2 hours , used three 60 minute tapes and the final edit was 3 1/2 mins long.

Still not found the license debate bit.

a bit lacking for both the licence and the new quotas.
what does the increased quota actually mean.100-1000kilos.
how much are they actually allowed to land does this affect what species they can land or does this just simplify thing in the means that they can sweep up what is actually there, wether this be cod, bass, flats or whatever.
as for this so called shore angler licence what do they plan on doing with the money raised.
will there be a golden mile or two, closed season or what.
what are the views of the other users on the site regarding whaty they actually want,i;e closed season, restricted areas, increased size limits etc etc.
oh and before i forget the dannys are still out covering from blyth down to hte tyne AGAIN.

Got to say I'm a bit dissappointed with Leon....thought of him as more of a dashing blade until I saw him on the link!
