The plan last night was to head over to Whitley Bay to fish the pipe over low water then afterwards move to my local mark at Hebburn on Tyne to use up any left over bait. I was a bit late getting out but ended up on the pipe in time to fish one hour down then two back up before the incoming tide pushed me off the mark. It was a big tide last night so it came back in fast and there was a canny swell on too so I didn't want to outstay my welcome in case I got washed off lol. I fished on the very end casting to the left (towards St Marys lighthouse).

I used a two hook flapper rig baited with fresh ragworm and sometimes Isome. Size 1/0 and 4. The hooks were coming back clean with the Isomes hanging off in shreds and showing lots of little nip marks ... CRABS! Annoying bliddy things. Anyway I managed to catch two pouting for a point in the species hunt. Result! This is the first time I have ever caught pouting in the north east. I have had loads of them down south on Chesil Beach but this is the first time I have caught any locally. So I was please with that result even though they were the only two fish all night.

When the waves began to look menacing and started washing over the end I bottled out and legged it back to Hebburn. I followed the marina road along to the very end but the small car park there had two cars in it already and their occupants were getting up to some rather amorous activities. Oh dear. I didn't want to disturb them too much so headed back along to the second car park. I hadn't realised that little car park was used as a Lovers Lane and at 3am in the morning ! I say! Anyway the second car park is always a nice shot and you can fish beside your car. I had an hour there without a single bite. The two hormone fuelled couples had moved on so I headed back to the small car park at the end and walked along to the stone jetty. An hour and a half went by and still no bites so I decided to call it a night. Not a very productive night but an interesting one all the same.

Well done for getting out and trying Mike, at least you got a species point. It's been poor locally lately, guess where I'm off to at the weekend lol.

Nice pout mike... Not caught one in ages. Not a bad night to be out, pity you didn't get anything else but another one ticked off in the species hunt!!
