Wrecks not so good in winter Chris better of fishing bait inshore. Give us a shout if you fancy wrecking in summer.

Is \'Sea Trek\' a recommended charter then ? I go from Whitby a fair bit but usually go out on \'Chieftain\'.
What other charters out of Whitby does everyone recommend ? as charters look like my only option of getting out as I can\'t see me being able to afford a decent boat and moor it in Whitby :casstet:

stu is not too bad, I had a few good days on achates, heartbeat, sea otter and shy torque. Best thing to do is if you can afford it try a few and see which one you like as they all have their plus points. Do you have any trips planned this year and where do you live mariner. There will also be lots of chances to get out with the lads who own boats on the board(out of the Tyne). The tyne i think now offers fishing on par if not better than whitby for a fraction of the cost(charters a lot cheaper).

i went on a 3 day trip with cheiftain and vowed never to go on that vessel again.
rolled like a pig in the swell,no electricity for most of the time,no heating and damp bedding and to top it not many fish
was a very expensive and uncomfortable 3 days...
but hay - ho

Got to disagree with you you there macky, been on chieftain long distance charters for the last three years and had outstanding fishing every time mind you we\'ve had the weather on our side. Needless to say we\'ve booked another 60 hour trip in july.

Yeh no bar but theres a bloody big chiller on board more than ample room for a few crates.
Costs about £300 per man with 12 anglers for 60hrs.
Once you get past say 70 miles from shore the water clarity is unreal with regular visits from dolphins and whales. Still come accross trawlers at 100 miles off though.
Caught all my fish with the 20lbs outfit 6oz lead and red jellies/shads including two cod over 17lbs, pirks seemed to attract the ling as did lumi shads although these were also successful for the cod. One problem with fishing shads especially lumi is a great thumping take followed by a bloody great orrible ling biteing the lot off and fishing heavier hooklengths seriously reduces catches as it impairs the action of the lure. I might try using a biteing length of 100lbs dynon but don\'t know if this will lead to tangles, any ideas?

Macky, I thought that \'Chieftain\' was stabalised ? Ex Navy training vessel !
I have been on it - but only a 12 hour jobbie - don\'t know what I would be like any longer than that, though I have been told that if I was fine doing 12 hours then I would last 60 hours or so no problem, as if you are going to be sea sick it usually comes on in an hour or so of leaving.

Whitby charters - I have been on Enterprise and would not set foot on there again unless they get another skipper and a toilet ! I am not a prude, but can\'t get my head around just having to lob your tackle over the side for a pea - or have to do the other in a carrier bag and chuck it over the side.
I was thinking about going out on Shy Torque (don\'t you just love that name ?) but when I enquired about \'Facilities\' was abruptly told that we will have to make do with using a bucket.
So which of the Whitby charters don\'t have a toilet on board ? There is no excuse really these days for them not to have one - Chemical toilets don\'t cost much.
The same subject was brought up on the letters page of this months Sea Angler magazine too - though not in Whitby. Be interesting to read all your comments on the matter.

Originally from South Shields and I am always popping up home as often as I can - got to get to See the Mariners at Filtrona Park before the season end too - Finishes in April - and while I am there I would quite like to get myself a charter sorted.
What is the cost of a cahrter from the Tyne then ? I am going to get out on JFK one day. The typical price of a Charter out of Whitby is about £40.00 per man based on 12.
I am booked to go out on Chieftain on Sunday 28th March on a 12 hour job @ £45.00 - if all the places get booked that is !

I\'ve never used one - or even had to have a pee or owt, but you just never know

Achates has a toilet that is private - seeing as ya dont like showing ya bum. I think the Tyne boats are about 10-15 pounds cheaper than whitby ones as are hartlepool boats. £28 last summer. May try the cheiftan for the 12 hour trip in March. Will contact John.

i personally am a tyne convert , fished whitby loads of times, very over rated i now fish on the sarah jfk. brilliant skipper great fishing and a hell of a lot cheaper and better fishing than whitby.
it is also just as quick if not quicker to get from wakefield to newcastle as it is to whitby .

I have to rely on Public Transport at the mo, so for me to get from Pontefract (well, Knottingley really) to Newcastle it takes about 2 hours Max going vis Leeds.
For me to get to Whitby it takes at least 3 hours :casstet:
I quite fancy going on JFK, but does he take Individuals out ? I ask as I mainly have to go out on my own - but hopefully all that will change as I have started a sea angling club up in the Wakefield (Five Towns) area.
Being a North East (Shields) lad I would much prefere to go out from the Tyne
