Which multiplier ?

Hi Mate
I have used the slosh 30 for years and had no problems but swapped to a daiwa saltist 30h this season and it is lush.At the end of the day its what you are used to and if you look after them they look after you.

re-what reel

re-what reel

Over the last 18yrs i think that i have had them all, at the moment i use a Penn mag 525 mk2 and a Abu 7000i mag, just got to say the abu is the BIGGEST heap of crap that i've fished with nothing but trouble, the older abu's are streets ahead coz they were made in Sweden not like this crap that is coming out of China..A bomb proof reel has got to be Penn 535 a tried and tested reel that go's on forever, nothing wrong with slosh's20/30 and can be picked up for under £70 on ebay, depends what you want from fishing on chioce of reel, i would recomend a slosh 30 on heavy ground and for the beach/piers a penn 525 mag. hope this helps

Braid on multi's

Braid on multi's

Just one other question (for now):

Are you guys still using mono for shore fishing or ought I to be loading my reels with braid ?

I've only used braid on a Shakespeare Ugly Stik 15 and on my lure fishing outfit, but I see that more folks are using it for shore fishing.

Thoughts ?

I use braid quite often on my multipliers and have no problems as long as the reel is not running too fast. The older Abu reels fresh out of the box usually needed to be tamed by replacing the oil in the bearings. Apart from a 6500 mag all my reels are Daiwa so I'm not sure if new Abu/Akios reels need to be tamed too. If they do clean the bearings by dropping them in some lighter fluid for while, dry them and add a drop of heavy oil and let it soak through.
If you have a read at this, Put braid to bed - Planet Sea Fishing Digital Magazine
it will give you all, the info you need to know about spooling on braid. There is also an article about tying braid to a mono shock leader using the albright knot.
Hope this helps.

thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments.

The Akios had its first outing today.

What a machine - like using a vintage Abu, only better :)

Very well mannered right out of the box. I removed two of the four brake blocks and I can throw further than with the Syncro with ease.

Will try the SL30SH next time, but I'm well impressed with the Akios so far :)

Caught 4 fish today incidentally. 2 Whiting and 2 Codling, biggest around 2lb

Put them all back - I'll look for them again in a few years ;)
