where to fish

plan to fish hartlepool area this weekend but i only started sea fishing this winter so have no idea of spring summer tactics wot speices can i expect to catch in hartlepool area wot rigs should i use wot are the best summer marrks in this area any help would be great thanks

any way i`ll be there saturday and sunday as `i have a hole weekend to my self for a change

chris, for good summer fishing wait till the Mackerel come in for real then try getting down to any of the local piers just before first light. Use a medium / light spinning rod with a small baitcasting reel or fixed spool. 10lb mainline maybe a 20lb leader for safety. and attach a single lure heavy enough to cast with. All the tackle shops sell simple silver sprat like lures. You should have a lot of fun. Don\'t leave it till any later in the day though, nothing to do with the fishes feeding patterns (although they do seem to come on strong as the sun comes up) but any later and you\'ll be assaulted by hordes of other anglers.

For a relaxing / exciting alternative you could use a simple sliding float set up and bait your hook with a bit of squid or better still a sliver of your first spin caught mackerel (Tesco\'s will suffice to begin with) again all of the tackle shops sell these rigs and most of them come complete and with decent instructions on how to rig them up. For a stop not the easiest thing to explain is using a tiny bit of rubber band tied in a graany knot.

Try not to get carried away though and keep only what you\'re gonna eat, fill your freezer with fillets for winter or boat bait and let the rest go. try holding the treble hook with pliers and shaking them off as they don\'t respond well to handling of any sort.

Good luck, no finer fighting fish in the North Sea pound for pound. IMHO

there\'s tons of em around so fish as light as possible, My thoughts run like this.....

there\'s lots of em about and catching em is easy, If I want half a dozen for the barbi\' rather than bag up in 10mins, spend a few hours with light gear. when you\'ve caught a few, go lighter still, a 1lb mackeral on 4lb line with a lightweight spinning rod is gonna take a good ten minutes to land. much more fun than hauling in 4 at a time on 30lb line with a big rod

I\'ve always fancied getting out in a sea canoe and having a crack at them. I bet it\'s great fun.

It\'s not done a lot but I bet there are many rock marks you can get at them as well from and without the overcrowding, if anyone finds one PM me please.

forgot to mention if you take a bin bag full home, it considered bad for to hoy em out the back of boat whe re-entering the tyne in order to frustrate fishless shore anglers, who may possibly be of geordie extraction

what can expect to catch at the north gare this time of year
and do mackerel show here because i can imagine it being less crowded than other piers as its a bit out of the way for school kids to walk

chris there are mackerel at the north gare in the summer it is also possible to get bass on lures (rapalas) just off the gare. Watch out for the seals though as they do steal fish.

i fished the gare yesterday jason got to small collies close in wich side should i try for the bass seaton side or the river side i saw someone spinnig of the long wall of stones on the river side but the other side looked like it could hold some bass when the surf picked up with the wind last night
