Hi all, what's your favourite rig for cod fishing?

I predominantly use a rotten bottom pulley rig as I fish alot of rough ground marks along the Northumberland coast but I'm thinking of giving the long & low/up & over rig a try this winter.

Your comments are much appreciated.

Don't use a long up and overbid rough ground fishing mate.... Simple tip lol. I like the up and over on clean - mixed ground. Any sign of anything heavy then back to a pulley. People complain about hook up rates with the pulley rig but I've never ever had any issues with it. I often fish two rods, similar baits, rigs etc and if I have used different rigs I never catch more with rod one over the other. Still something to be said for a simple clipped single paternoster... No need to get overly complicated.

A pulley pennle or clipped dwn paternoster pennle for me:)
Be carefull with the up n over rig, great for clean beaches after ray's n cod when you want to present a long flowing snood with your hookbait away from the sinker(ideal for ray's)but no good fishing it over snaggy ground as the hook is trailing behind/underneath your sinker, just asking to get caught up:(

Blood loop two foot up from the lead, three foot to four foot hook snood attached to blood loop overhand "loop to loop".
Single hook, Mustad "Viking" or "Big-Eye".

I use this exact rig the majority of the time for cod unless I want distance then it's a trapped pulley clipped tight behind the lead

Pulley rig if its not to heavy otherwise I just tie a loop at the top of the rig, a blood loop 6in down, 2/3ft snood, 5/0 varivas big mouth with an upside down genie link at the bottom for the rotten bottom.

pennel pulley dropper rig with mustad 3407br oshaughnessy 5/0 and a lip grip circle hook 3/0 does the job well for me

what ian said .. but with a pennel on clean ground. /// in the rough id go higher ,away from the lead and a single hook . I also use bt crimps instead of loops.

1 up 1 down flapper, 3ft hook lengths with 4/0 Atlantic hooks cos I like to catch them two at a time ;) (especially in a match!) otherwise a fixed-pat with either single big hook or a circle-pennel added (depending on the type of ground), clipped down if needed.

Gary :)

2 hook loop rig with 4,0 sukumas in the rough stuff then around xmas mainly a single 4,0 or 5,0 sukuma manta extra up & over or running ledger 3ft snoods & a big crab, mussel & bluey bait.
beaches- always a 2 hook loop rig with 2 ft snoods & 2,0 or 3,0 sukuma manta extras.
