I phoned the skipper on the Thursday night and was over the moon when he told me we were launching at East Tarbet which usually means fishing tope marks in Luce Bay. Conditions weren't ideal and the plan was to fish for pollack in the morning and move to the tope marks in the afternoon when the swells flattened off (not). Got off to a bad start cos we slept in and I hadn't filled the car the day before so had to go looking for petrol at 4:30am. The roads were good tho' and we made East Tarbet just before Ian, Spike and Mally turned up with the Onyermarks fleet. We had a few drifts for mackerel which were scattered about but managed to get enough to last the day. We tried a couple of pollack marks close to the Mull but the water was like soup and although the odd fish to 3lb was coming up it wasn't good enough for Ian. We headed out to deeper water and tried plan B but the fish were hiding in the kelp and only the odd one again was ambushing the mackerel strips fished below a float. We moved again and found shelter from the winds on the west side of the mull. The tide had turned and the pollack began to feed and we were into fish on every drop. The word on the VHF was that the tope weren't playing so we decided to stay put and I lost count of the number of pollack we caught to about 7lb. Jaq out fished me again on her first ever boat trip (*groan*) but I decided I was on the wrong side of the boat so that eased the pain. I've had the odd the odd pollock before when chucking a spinner about but float fishing with light tackle is the doggies doo dahs and I'll definatly be going back for more. My biggest of the day was about 5/6 pound and a PB so I was chuffed with the day. All fish were returned except the poor maccy, bless them. We were very tired so after a nice meal at the Clash we turned in for a well deserved sleep. The next day we had breakfast and drove down the mull to find a shore mark but the weather was rotten to say the least. I tried to contact Jim and the lads but couldn't get a signal so we drove around for a while and called into portpatrick and stranraer before getting back to Drummore and getting hammered (sorry we didn't make it to the Crown lol). This morning the weather and the hangovers put paid to any desire to fish so we headed for home. A great weekend but no pics cos I left the camera in the car, doh
