WHITBY’S spring angling festival gets under way on Saturday (14 April) and finishing on the 29th april with competitors trying for the £1,000 jackpot.
Whitby Charter Skippers’ Association, which is organising the 16-day event, is delighted to welcome on board new sponsors The Station Inn in Whitby and MC Electricals - both of which are offering £500 towards the first prize.
Paul Kilpatrick, chairman of the charter skippers, said: “Last year saw some excellent catches of fish during the festival so once again competition should be fierce.
“Anglers come from all over the country chasing the big prize.”
As well as the £1,000 top prize, anglers can also compete for the £100 in daily prizes, making £2,600 in cash in prize money on offer.
The association is also pleased to announce a new sponsor - the Co-operative - the main cash sponsor for the grand summer festival when a jackpot of £5,000 will be paid out to the angler with the biggest fish This commences on Saturday 16 June and finishing on sunday 8th july total prize money for the competition is over £10,000 in cash plus many tackle prizes for places in each section this has to be the biggist angling festival throughout the the uk here are a list of the coming events in this years festival calendar.
