Wasabi Saturday 27/8 Ling fiesta

Decided to go for a morning fishing...early out...but not too early. Since my engine is under repair, James kindly gave me his boat, Seas the Day.

We went straight to a 7nm wreck and were bang into the fish. It was a beautiful morning with hardly any swell or wind and even the drift was not crazy at 0.5knots. Wonderful. And even the mackerels were there in masses.

The first drift produced 2 Ling, one of them a nice 11 1/2 lb.

After 3 drifts we had 5 fish.
After 2 hours we had 10 fish and a perfect morning unfolded...quiet, beautiful, fishy

UNTIL hell broke loose....from the distance we saw a charterboat rushing our way...Surely not coming to our wreck?? Even with binoculars you could not see a boat on a wreck anywhere within 3 miles....and there were numerous wrecks around here to park his boat....surely not....surely not...SURELY NOT!?

Surely yes....the monstrosity of Macer G (probably saw from distance that we caught fish) stopped 5m next to us....instantly the swearing, shouting started and yelling over to us asking how we are doing...the skipper duely staring at his GPS totally unbothered about us circling over the wreck to find a position.
Stopped upwind and let us inhale the diesel fumes from his ancient engine...not bothered to switch off during the drift.

We went to another corner of the wreck only to be followed again...

what a pity, we left instantly. Who wants to spend a Saturday morning like that!!!

On another wreck we added a few to the tally before we headed back to the marina.

Overall we had 15 ling up. to 11 1/2 lb and one pollack. Strangely no cod at all.
We also had numerous mackerels, but unfortunately no herrings.

Not a pretty photo, but shows the number of ling (we also returned some)...

James fishing boats hires!
Great catch, happened before, same boat.
Don't know if it is ignorance, bullying or a combination.
Posts on here. Let's all be friends.

gate crashers

Bad crack that ''pirates '' spoiled your ( initially) perfect morning. Some real brainless knackers about. Torpedo surely crossed your mind however briefly. lol

macer g --a charter boat?????---i think not--unless its been a best kept secret!!!!! or one of the many illegal charters that pollute our waters:D:D

Aye Duncan, she isn't a charter boat and I have been on her!
Shame about the incident with Norbert, both him and Steven seem like good blokes to me.

yes mark definitely not a charter boat as i have been on her myself as a guest, a great bunch of lads. personally i think it is only right that you can can fish any wreck you have in your plotter as long as your not impeding the drift of other boats on that wreck.

absolutely right, splish splash--however there are guidelines about behaviour at sea (just as on the public highway) :D

always the same boats doing this kind of bullying at sea and its never the well established ones like JFK or Sapphire.

I have a certain understanding that sometimes you simply cannot avoid fishing a wreck with more than one boat.

I only start to get cross, when the sea is free and open and there are many wrecks to pick and then a large boat approaches a small one without the need.
obviously any small vessel will leave if a big one with running engine and 12 anglers lowering 12 christmas trees arrives.

we do the boat angling for some quiet and piece and to encounter nature at its purest. Diesel fumes and noises, horns, shouting and ****ing overboard anglers are not part of that.

Had exactly the same experience today with a new boat called Northeastern. That guy even had the audacity to abuse and threaten me on the radio, when I left ( I talked about his behavior on the VHF with Peter of Sapphire w). Maybe he should rather invest in a GPS and fishfinder. Then he can find his own wreck and does not need binoculars to check where others are catching fish.:p

The best approach is to ignore it and go to another wreck....there are plenty and we caught lots of fish today

15 cod and ling up to 10 1/2 lb

Nice hauls there Wasabi,
There are owners who just don't know and those who don't give a fcuk and think they are something above.
Even if they are a charter some seem to think they have the right above you ....like fcuk.
A lot of private and most charter know the crack as we do.

If you travel say 10 mile and someone is either on or arrives before you, would you leave it and go else where, maybe or maybe not, but definitely doesn't stop me JOINING the drift down tide within a timely manor, meaning sitting off and watching him on the radar until he,s 50% across the drift, then getting on it.

I had a boat 2 weeks ago, I was having a cuppa while on the drift, he came screaming around me, right in front uptide !! on the drift, when I went around, he came around again, like hot rodding past me. I just laughed at it, it was like he was trying to show his dominance .... I have a fast engined big boat look at me.......... Anyhow I had another cuppa, I shot the throttle down, rocked the boat and left him on a empty wreck..... Oh I forgot to add, it was a Sunderland charter boat 22 mile off Hartlepool, I thought he was lost. I think you called it ****epphire or something......

But your correct it is annoying,

Paul

manners

manners

Shame bad feeling and ruined days caused by ill mannered brainless aggressive folk who were obviously dragged up by equally aggressive brainless ill mannered parents.. bad behaviour is always a reflection on the sad sacs who did the ''browtins up''

Nice 1 Norbet some good fish there. Don't know about anyone else, but I go fishing to have some ME time and enjoy the day, and the catching of fish is the bonus. However, unfortunately you will get people who are purely mercenary and will just plough on regardless without any consideration for other people. - Saddo's really.

Agree with the previous comments , with all the new charter boats about at the moment it is hard to justify the business model and it is likely a lot will not be about next year . Just me like .

I don't have a problem sharing a wreck so long as they do it politely and not go at like Billy Bunter in a cake shop. Whether they are trying to impress their party(which they don't) or think that it's macho(which it isn't). We should respect other anglers. It costs nothing to be polite and it's much more enjoyable for all.
