Hello everyone, I'm back posting again thanks to Jim (willywetegg) and thanks to Sless for posting for me.
Anyway due to the ever increasing popularity, (and the moaning) we have changed the times slighty.
I will now take the money at 6pm, and you must be back before 10,30 pm.
One more thing!! I stated !! at the beginning of these cash matches that the minumin size would be 35cm any fish.
This Bass I got last week was 39cm, now I dont know the legal size for Bass, or if there is a law against it.?? there was a slight bit of controversy if
anyone could enlighten me.
Either way I caught it from the top of the north arm, it wouldn't survive the drop.

41 cm - it was 2 cm to small (phnaa phnaa)

i wouldnt have posted it to be honest ,you will get the usual posts of how you should know better / its illegal etc etc - even though they would have took it home for what i would expect to be a fine grilled fillet for tea

maybe your measure was wrong ..........................

I don't think I've talked to anyone or read any posts on NESA or anywhere else who does not put back their bass. I've caught about half a dozen in the north east, some undersize, some that looked big enough to keep (No Tape Storey) but the thought of keeping a bass is somewhat alien. Presented with the prospect of throwing a fish, any fish, to it's death rather than using it would clear my conscience even if it was a tad undersize.

New times are much better Tony! Hopefully should make it this week, should have me own wheels so dont need to rely on other people for lifts to comp and bait shop.

as far as i know the legal size limit for bass is still 36cms,

Cheers Alan - i caught 4 last year (on seperate nights) while fishing our Cleadon Club matches ,but they were only 40 cms ,so i thought they were not size ,so didnt bother putting them in - saying as the club has now grown (big style) and a monday nights heaviest bag can earn £50 + i will now keep them as long as they are over 36cm - our rule is all fish 33cm unless NSFA - you are a font of knowledge - i thought it was 41 cm all these years

I fished the Newbiggin Open at the weekend and theyre size limit for Bass has been raised to 41cms. As far as i know angling bodies were lobbying for a 45cm limit but it got knocked back but will be reviewed in 5yrs or so, bass dont mature til theyre 43-44cms or so so the new size is just pointless!!! I know what you mean about the drop from the north arm tho tony, very unlikely that it would have survived, pity tho cos theyre a beautiful fish. Maybe you should alter the rules slightly the 35cms works but just not for every species. Hope to be there on friday and the new times should encourage more to turn up and theres still time for a pint afterwards aswell!!!

Dont need to be warned - i know my NFSA fish sizes - otherwise you would have been hoying out my bass last year if i had brought them in

just wondering were the 36cm comes from - maybe farmed Morrison Bass ???

did it taste nice though??

s`pose they would have ,but i hooked there gills (well 3 of them - the other was a low water shot so it went back by hand) on the grip wire and lowered them back to live another day - so hopefully that is acceptable

I posted last year about Bass size being aprox 16 inches. Pretty close to 41 Cms. Got shot down by someone who I thought was an expert on these things, Now i know there is no such thing.

Jim.

re: Bass size limit

re: Bass size limit

Following a public consultation and lengthy
delay - on the 10th August, Defra announced
that the minimum landing size for bass
(Dicentrarchus labrax) is to be increased.
From April 6, 2007, commercial fishermen and
anglers will not be allowed to take bass any smaller
than 40cm. The current limit is 36 cm (37.5cm in
Cornwall and South Wales).
