Hello everyone - Its been a long time since I posted on here....in fact its a long time since I got out fishing. With work committments, a new personal business venture and other hobbies, time is hard to come by right now...!!
Davey and I boarded the Volante at Sunderland Marina and headed off out about 11.45 this morning. As usual Captain Pugwash, (Davey Bolam) had a plan of where we were going based on previous wrecking trips around this date and with the expected tides. The Captain is always well prepared to ensure as much fishing time as possible....!!
Anyway...fishing around 4miles off, the plan was to stalk 3-4 wrecks almost within touching distance of each other. These wrecks produce early every year without fail, (would love to understand why) so are always a safe bet for late May. As usual, Captain Pugwash and his beloved Volante delivered in devasting fashion.
Using our usual Shad tactics we landed a Cod each in our first 7 drops over the wreck. Biggest fish went to Davey with a beaut of 18lbs, (pictured below). My biggest of the day was 14lbs with another 2 around 11lbs.
It was a short one today so we headed back in about 3.30pm to give Davey time to fillet the fish and me to supervise & provide vocal encouragement.
We ended up with a great catch of 20+ Cod, smallest fish was 6lbs. The shads certainly deterred the small and attracted a more sizeable fish.
I'm hoping to get out again at the weekend. Twice in 2012 will double my fishing trip tally in 2011..!!
Thanks again to Davey for an excellent day. Good fishing and good company.
Cheers,
Jeff
