Elliot Morley has been convicted over his expenses and served a prison sentence and been released since that article was written. He served as minister from 1997 to 2003 that gives you a clue as to how old it is. So the question is did the ban all those years ago help ?

In that case, surely it's worth trying again, but this time police it properly. The hole project makes sense to me. A TOTAL ban of trawling on or over selected nursery grounds in the spawning season. Doesn't matter how many skippers winge about it. Surely they can see it's in there own interest

yea they need the cod stocks back up thats why me and my mate tony t have been banned from fishing give the rest a chance of a fish lol

canman, efforts have been made for many years under the cod recovery plan, this is a highly complex part of marine science, all estimates of stock effort and biomass are evaluated by scientist, unfortunately they do not all agree with one another on how to do it. There are many arguments but it is thought our cod stocks are in recovery from the various regional spawning biomass stock and things are heading in the right direction. Now you must remember this is aimed at commercial fishermen, mainly the over 10 fleet fishing out well past the 6 mile limit. There will be many factors why shore anglers are not doing so well or perceived to be , weather, sea temperature, feed, inshore nets. Do the recreational boats anglers suffer as much ?
