I feel your pain CT. I've had a trapped nerve in me neck since July 09. Doc said it would untrap itself booooooooo. Cant take pain killers cos of dodgy liver function (another story) and cant drink the pain away cos of dodgy liver function booooo. The only way I can sleep in bed is on me back with me right arm strecthed out and me head bent to the left or on the couch with pillows and cushions sculpted to keep me head bent up at 90 degrees then I press me legs on the other side of the couch and lock meself like a spring. If I sleep in the caravan with the jockey wheel fully lowered it sometimes works but not guaranteed. The only real relief I get is green and illegal

On the plus side I went fishing for mackerel and caught two gurnards :-)
 
no magic cure mate, i smacked my back up in a cliff fall years ago, prescription drugs will only knock you out or put you in a point were yes you feel the pain, but you really dont give a sh*t about it, trouble is you have to come off those drugs, not easy if in the mean time you have become addicted to them, ive been down that route, thrown the drugs years ago and now in the main i have learned to live with the pain and use a rub for when i cant, hot as hell showers on the affected part helps me - if you know where the affected part is, jabs dont always work and to get it in the right place is not the best feeling in the world - trust me on that
end the day i was told by 50 there was a very good chance i could be in a chair, im 55 and its not managed to put me in one yet, hopefully if its coming its a long long way off
 
I escaped a wheelchair as well and now have no option but to live on painkillers ,you're right about those that give you that carefree feeling ,I would recommend them on a strictly part time basis when the pain is really bad . Wor lass had a trapped nerve in her shoulder for a year or so and then, as you commonly here , she woke up one morning to find it had cured itself ,I suggested manipulation to free it but she wasn't keen and just put up with it .
Chin up Ell mate ,it'll go when it wants to ,meanwhile you have to find a way of dealing with it that suits you , I'm sure you'll have something alternative you can try.
 
I've had a bad back for 15 years now, had the MRI scans to reveal degenerative wear between the discs etc. Might sound daft but the best thing for me is to keep exercising and buy a memory foam topper for the mattress. Getting up on a morning is 10 times easier since i bought the topper, takes some getting used to but i would'nt be without it now....:)
 
Had exactly the same trapped nerve with extreme pain behind the shoulder blade & up the side / back of my neck. My doctor advised wearing a neck collar.
I said the main pain is in the shoulder but he stressed the need for supporting the correct posture of the neck. I wore it for a couple of weeks and although it initially made the pain worse, it soon did the business.
Can't remember the pills prescribed but they didn't stop the pain for long.
Eventually the pain just receeded and finally ceased altogether - just like that...
 
Yep very important that your head is not stressed in bed by using too many pillows ,sounds a bit soft but ask anyone who has bother and they will tell you .

My mate has his own pillow that goes everywhere with him ,he even took it to Tazmania last time we visited.
