Sugar Sands+knacker Hole.

heading up northumberland tomorrow morning to have a look at these 2 marks as ive never fished them before and was wondering if anyone could fill me in with some info on best times to fish them,just going up for a look tomorrow with the intention of fishing 1 of them next weekend and the other 1 the following week.
any advice would be a great help cheers.
 
They are not my areas poacher, I have been invited to fish them by a few NESA members but havn't managed to make them yet.

They are on my hit list for this year though lol.

I have no doubt that some of the lads that have invited me up there will answer this thread though so don't worry blacky, you will get the info you are after mate.

Like every where else up here, not fishing very well at the moment. ASAC are having the worst start to the season in god knows how long! Fished there last night and it was full of kelp, lost a few traces and one of the lads I was with lost al his bait from a rogue wave sweeping everything away!

So far we've only had a couple fish over 4lb, with the few caught around the 1-1 1/2lb mark

sugar sands , im guessing it is a low water shot after seeing it yesterday it looks like u must fish the rocks on either side of the bay ?
knacker hole looks like it could hold some good fish ,and that looks like a definate low water shot anall.
please correct me if anyone knows any different ,THANKS.

Hi Blacky,

I've fished Knacker Hole twice without much luck! I dived it loads of times and there are plenty of fish, including conger eels!

If you fish it at low water you will see a small skeer which runs parallel to the main skeer. This dies off underwater about 75 yards out and opens onto sand beds. Careful though - there is a lobster pot line which runs straight across between the skeers underwater about 60 yards from the shore at low water. You should see it - covered in fishing line. If you were to fish straight off the main skeer at about 120 yards you'd hit a second reef which is covered in life (and kelp) loads of fish kicking about here - mainly codling and wrasse and the odd conger in the cravasses!

Give it a blast but use a rotton bottom and take plenty of leads for any of the Beadnell shots!

The south side of the point at beadnell is pretty good and after diving it I'm defo going to try fishing it. Near the end at low water if you fish the south side there are a load of small reefs and sandy ledges - crawling with life.

If you see any seals I'd turn around!

Some good info there mate thanks.
Fished Knacker Hole last summer 05 with Jim in a mini NESA comp/get together,looked a good shot in the right conditions,the day we fished it the sea was "up" and it was pot luck where we had a chuck :)
 
steve thanks very much for all that info m8,it sounds great and i cant wait till the weekend,lets see if i can catch a few of them cod u seen when u were diving.

fished knacker hole lastnite from 4.30 till 11.30,two of us had loads ov coalies n 1 codling about 1lb,all returned,baites used were crab,rag,lug,razor n runnydown.
was hoping for something half decent but atleast we were kept busy allnight so i cant complain,
ah,and the sea was flat calm.

Here is what JV has to say on it mate hopefully this will help you.

Knacker hole, Beadnell, Northumberland. This has to be one of the best low water winter marks Northumberland has to offer. I have caught cod to 8lb here, seen good bags caught and heard of even larger cod from the hole. Fish here in darkness during a big Southerley sea, you will find Beadnell point will protect you from the worst of the rough weather. Either cast short into the middle of the hole, it is fairly deep and kelpy here or cast longer towards the Farne islands lighthouse, here you will be on mixed ground.

When fishing near the end of the skeer care needs to be taken because you can get cut off around two or three hours into the flood tide, the cut off point is roughly three quarters of the way along the skeer, keep an eye on your route back off! If you do not get any fish during your first few casts move to another gully.

Directions: Park your car on the coast road that leads towards Beadnell harbour, just before the large white house on the seaward side and walk around the edge of its garden, it's not far to walk, from here you will see the hole, fish on the right hand side skeer in the photograph.
