Been on the pier today for a match absolutely teeming with undersize codling. Getting 1 or 2 every cast, biggest 10inches. Biting as fast as you hit bottom. Poor day for sizeable fish although Sid Galbraith managed a 1lb-12oz coalie. A few dabs , flounders and whiting also landed.
Must have been a good breeding year for cod last year judging by what happened today!

Same goes for coalies, judging by the numbers of undersized b*ggers i`ve been getting recently.

Yes I am fishing the Amble Open on Sunday but with south westerly's forecast the prospects of a big bag are unlikely. When conditions are like this it evens the odds somewhat and everyone has a good chance of getting amongst the prizes in what is one of the best opens on the North East coast. Good luck to everyone taking part.
