Fished tonight 7pm till 9pm. First time ever at the prom. Was going to try Blyth pier but saw some lads who advised no fish.
First chuck at the prom one codling 3.5lbs second last cast a small silver eel. Not a bad spot, probably very good in a strong easterly. Codling fell to rag and crab.

Keep meaning to go up there and give it a go. What's it like on tackle and what sort of set-up works best??

Clean ground as you fish over high water from the prom. Any set up will do really as there is no need to 'power cast' over the horizon! like most venues - vary the casting distance till you find fish.

Very dangerous place to fish on a big easterly like tony says it heaps over the top and I mean right over .never go over the steps to try and retrieve tackle it is clean ground but tackle losses can be heavy as you need to retrieve up the steps off the beach.I had a mate washed off last year trying to free his line when it got snagged in the boulders he thought it was safe and a wave came over the top off him taking him out!!! luckily for him it spat him out with the second wave but it could of been a very different story ...seen some very good fish caught from there more so at the north end where there is rougher ground about three hundred yards out,the south end is clean ground right the way out.

Got to agree with Fishfinder. This can be a dangerous place when there's a big south-easter blowing.best conditions for me have been a good sized tide flooding in and a decent sea dropping off from s.e.
November can be great if the conditions allow, high water's around 18.00-21.00hrs being best.Weed is deposited on the prom from the sea breaching the sea defence,be very careful if there's weed on the path,
take care.

plans are afoot to place the sea barrier across the mouth of the bay and for fresh sand to be brought in to make the beach better for tourists so don't know how long this mark is going to be available for I know they have been awarded the 10 million pounds to do this so could be the last winter you get a chance to fish this venue

aye ff,was in the free paper the other week, one of the council engineers in the photo fishes for newbiggin club, also does well in comps.I wonder if this project will have any consultation with local angler's/sailing clubs to see what the real picture is?
