So the plan last night was to fish over high water using lots of different tactics to try for some species points. As it turned out I was having a such a good night that I just couldn't leave and ended up fishing right through until the morning a couple of hours after low water
I arrived at the pier 6.30pm and met up with Fishingmark wearing his new NESA hoodie at his favourite spot. Mark was float fishing and pulled in a flounder and some long spined sea scorpions. I put on a set of small sabikis on my spinning rod and started chucking it about hoping for a launce. This proved a very successful tactic and I ended up with two launce, a few coalies, a pollack and the worlds smallest codling
I then had a good fight with a good sized mackerel which I was surprised to get on such a tiny lure. 1lb 3oz.
The tide had turned and was now ebbing so we moved up to the blocks. I put some bait out on one rod (rag and mackie on a two hook flapper) and carried on with the sabikis on my spinning rod. I soon lost the sabikis to a snag which was closely followed by a couple of zeniths so I tried a short string of three daylights and caught a pollack 35cm. The bait rod caught no fish but the hook baited with ragworm caught a small lobster. It was sized but only just so I chucked it back to grow bigger. Mark had a few more sea scorpions on the float and some coleys I think?
It was now about 11.30 and it was getting pretty dark so Mark headed off home and I switched to bait fishing with both rods - one cast out and one down the side with tiny hooks. I caught a sea scorpion but nothing else for an hour so I decided to move down to the 44. This proved to be a good decision as it was Fish City there. I was getting knocks every cast and landing fish most casts. Coleys, whiting (some sized), dabs, codling (mostly just under sized around 33cm). Non stop action through until the sunrise. At one point I got a really good knock and felt the weight of a good fish which fought all the way in only for me to lose it when my hook straightened out! I was gutted. I only had a size 1 Aberdeen on targeting plaice and hadn't expected to hook any monsters. Oh well. Maybe I'll get him next time.
So the final score was 27 fish, 8 species and a lobster. A very enjoyable session.
