Family affairs kept Team Slinky away from the fishing on the Bank Holiday Weekend...the crew was lording it up in St Anne’s in the glorious hot weather while the skipper was carrying out full engine service incl’ oil change 
Anywho, the date was set and yesterday saw us meet up at a most unslinky time of 0630 and by the time we actually left the piers it was bordering on 0800
We must be getting old
or actually, it was down to the time of the tides...
So off we set into a slight to moderate sea
with previous days winds leaving a bit of swell on but nothing scary and it was always forecast to drop off...which of course it did. Straight to the rough ground for the bottom of the tide.
Expectations low at this point because of the state of the tide...but first trip out is always about ensuring systems are go and we, of course had the new gps/plotter to get to grips with
Boat ran smooth as you like and the new gadget is an absolute dream - sooo user friendly and the geet large screen makes it easy on the aging eyes
Back to the fishing - we picked up a few early fish on the bait but it was slow picking...as ever our eyes turn to the horizon - so it wasn’t long before we zoomed off
Shads were dropped over the first wreck and
boom first drop...straight in! Fantastic we thought - everywhere is ablaze! Erm no...just a lucky drop
Never mind...pressure was already off as we had our fish suppers...so off we went again.
We travelled the usual circuit with not much else happening to we headed back to the rough ground (near that white lighthouse thingy) for the middle of the flood.
Pottering around with baited slinky grubs saw us pick up more fish...lots and lots of small stuff returned too.
We also hit a nice little purple patch - forever now known as Tonys Spot on the new plotter
And then that was it...a very successful trip and a great start to the season...long may it last!
