Slinky Kate 6th Aug 2011 - Awesome

Similar to last season keith, when they're feeding on the sprats the shads are unbeatable. I got one yesterday that had a sprat in its mouth that must've only been taken seconds before the fish gulped down the shad, it was in perfect condition and except for the wag of a tail would have done just fine as a shad itself :)

Just back from the boat after having the usual Sunday tidy up and was inspecting a couple of shads that made it through the day .... :) :) :)

As has been mentioned earlier it was 100% bite detection all day, and also there were an amazing amount of coley and whiting.

The bites were continious and often were on the hook for 10 to 12 ft of reeling up before falling away only to be instantly re-connected again when you hit bottom.

As can be seen from these two little fellas that made it through, the whiting must have been grabbing the tails and holding on for life only to let go as they were dragged off the bottom ....... see closely hundreds of small teeth marks in the tails and rear sections of the shads .......
cod on the other hand were taking them full down their throats.

There was a similar shoal of sprats up at Amble yesterday Norman. Coalies, whiting, pollock, cod and mackerel all feeding on the shoal. More coalies than anything else, all around 1-2lb in size.

There were also a load of gannets diving into the sprats as well as dolphins and whales surfacing from time to time. It was crazy!

great report as usual norman as i have said many times before early starts are the way to go.

got to say i always look for your report and videos great reading and viewing .

Wow!, now that's a days fishing,:o and a new species for you Norman. Fantastic read and pics from you both. Now that my engine is properly sorted, I'll be able to venture a bit further offshore.:):) and hopefully get amongst them shoals of smile makers.:D Keep them coming the pair of you, love your reports.
As a kid in the sixties, when it started getting dark mackerel fishing on Blyth pier, the Scad, (horse mackerel) would make a show, and would outnumber the normal mackerel. They can't half grunt too.:D:D

One of them coddys was trying to take a hokkai like a suppository :o

as to the post mortem - yes I do have a bit of a thing for squidging through the entrails to try and tell the future...but all it actually told me was they were eating sprats and crustacea...I've still bought a lottery ticket in case though :D

great pics and report Norman are you storing up your videos for the winter or am I looking in the wrong place  always enjoy a slinky video:D

A few of the shads I was using had there tails bit of in the frenzy lol. Poor quality shads ?? Or just aggressive fish? Couple of us had the same problem so it might be the fish

What an amazing mornings fishing it was here's hopeing for the same again this weekend :-)

Another cracking day out for the Slinky crew, well done. It looks like I've missed some good fishing while I was away, now we just need the weather to play fair and let us get back out again.
