Slinky Kate 5th July2015 - Kayos theory

Crews report this week and it was with extra special guests (NESA's very own celebrity angling couple – Mark and Lynn) that saw us all meet up at the RQ at a bleary eyed 0330!

Talk all week had been of the weekend weather – Will we? Won't we? And with Saturday already called off would we get out on Sunday?? Even when sitting round the dinner table at the restaurant last night we were still unsure...:yltype:

...in the end our fears were academic as the ever reliable XC Weather had said it would fine – and thus it was!

All we had to do was dash out early doors, grab a boxful – demonstrate to our guests how incredibly easy it is and cruise back for tea/medals and maybe a glass of wine and/or beer

Erm...mebbes not...:red:

Today was all about hard yacka – the fish would simply not throw themselves at us...in fact I spent the first hour or so trying for mackerel to virtually no avail ( just the two!!! )

So we found ourselves going hither and thither looking for the fish...we did pick up the odd one here and there with Lynn, myself and Norm all catching fish to put in the box – Mark meanwhile, was living up to his reputation at this point of living in Lynn's shadow...we were a very sympathetic crew as you can imagine :D

It had even got so bad that he was considering getting Keith to change his NESA username from “Kayos” to “Diddly Squat” :D:D

Eventually after quite a number of hard hours we landed at mark X...which henceforth shall be named as Marks Wreck :)

Well the guy was like a man possessed. Never before have Team Slinky been in awe of someone but this was awe inspiring stuff...Mark started catching fish!

Ling, Pollack, Cod...what the sam hell was happening here? It was like a fishing miracle (not seen since biblical times) was happening right before our eyes!

Mark was single handedly saving the blushes of those around him by also single handedly filling the box over the next couple of hours

Not going to lie – Norman and I were very relieved...today was not about Team Slinky but our honoured guests. It had got so bad at one point that when Norman sniggered at me saying “It's your turn for the report for today” I replied with “Jesus, it's going to have to be very descriptive!!”

Like I said Mark saved blushes all round with his immense fishing prowess! :red::yltype::cool::D

There was a brief respite from Marks trawling when Norm caught yet another Wolf Fish! :o

Don't know what has happened to be different this year but there seem to be a lot around....after some minor wrestling it was returned to the deep – blimey they is ugly!

By late morning all of us were pretty beat and so we headed back in...Lynn, Myself and Norman all basking in Marks reflected glory – he truly had saved the day!

Few pics from today:

The famous Kayos and Codqueen!

The sun starting to peek over the horizon...

Dawn arrives!

Lynne with one of those rare species – Mackerel!

Norman showing Mark what a fish is :D

Lynn with a Ling

Mark was elated with that fact :D

The Trawler awakens...

Lynn tries to keep up

But the man keeps going!

Team Slinky well and truly in Marks shadow

Now, here lies the rub...Mark was catching all these fish using the most simplest, some would say primitive of rigs

One bare hook and stinking squid!

It just goes to show that even with all the gear and modern plastic lures you aren't always guaranteed to catch the fish – ruddy fantastic! :D

Great day, great company and what a hoot...lovely to meet you Mark and Lynn and a big thanks from Team Slinky for being crew for the day :)

Cheers from me as ever Norm ;)

Thanks for reading :)

Great report Tony, great to see you and the guests out there.

Sorry your steam back in wasn't very fruitful, the usual kiss of death, or maybe the tide had just slackened.

Well done Mark and Lynn some nice fish there.

Cracking result and report as always, Its good to see Mark and Lynn getting plenty of fish I just hope when they board My Sharon I can deliver the goods for them both!

Ah Tony, you are too kind! We loved the meal and company last night with partners at the White Swan .

This morning did indeed start as a nightmare for me, lost rigs, reels issues and absolutely no fish for the first 3 hours! All three of you had caught fish and by heck you were not shy in letting me know!

After blanking with Slinky shads, baited hokkais and losing most of the aforementioned, I decided on a whim to rig up a 2 hook thingy and bait with squid. My first drop ended with 2 pin Whiting, which caused much hilarity on the boat! However the next drop I managed my first decent Cod of this trip which pleased me greatly, snapping the hook on trying to get it out the Cod's mouth did not! However I decided to go with just one hook and amazingly it paid off, with Ling, more Cod and two good Pollock!

It just proves that you cannot equate fishing and logic!

For instance, I was snagging every wreck we visited, yet this one, I fished it for over an hour and did not snag up once, while you guys lots numerous rigs. Imagine if I had snagged on my first drop, I would probably have gone back to hokkais and how different this report would be! I fished that wreck with no loss of gear until the squid ran out and I was incredibly lucky.

By the way, I was delighted that Norman decided not to boat that big Wolfie he caught, if he had, I was off to the cabin!

Anyway enough of the fishing.

Lynn and I had the best time ever. Thanks so much to Norman and yourself, not only for taking us out, but for helping us and giving great help and advice . Lynn has been fast asleep since 530pm and I will be soon I think.

Thank you Norman and Slinky Kate, not many Skippers can do the impossible and find me fish!

What a weekend we have had and thank you to the boys on Macer g too!

Great report Tony and a wonderful story! a big well done to all on board Slinky im sure it was a team effort :D
It was one of those mornings that was just a pleasure to be out regardless of any fish activity
Me and Keith had a great morning fish wise and it had just turned off as yous came across ! the early call was the time to make a move inshore,we could have filled the boat with Pokes !;)

Well sometimes a girl has to hold her hands up and say "On the day you were better." I got a metaphorical spanking today!

For once Kayos was on fire, I think at one point he had 5 in five drops, as Tony said, unheard of! Actually I am really pleased for him, he tries so hard and deserves a good day. I had a lovely day too, caught some nice fish, had a right laugh with Norman and Tony and we really did have a ball.

Just woke up after a 15hr sleep, getting too old for 2am alarm calls! Another beautiful day weather wise and a couple of days off from fishing, so I think a wee trip to Raspberry Bazaar in Tynemouth, followed by a couple of "Highland Marys" at Lola Jeans is the plan for today.

Thanks again Norman, to find Mark the fish takes some doing(many have tried, many have failed!) you are a star. See you next year!

JFK2 next, bring on round 3!!

PS Great report Tony, you captured the mood perfectly.

Without wanting to Hijack the Great slinky's thread just make sure Lynne that you have 4 shredded wheat when you board the Mighty My Sharon (Well hopefully I can deliver the goods like Norman has done) As hopefully you can beat Mark again!!!
