hello everyone, i am returning to fishing after about a 15 year break, i have had my eyes opened with the changes, mainly with some of the rigs. I find this forum excellent and should be a credit to all its members. I am looking for some help regarding attaching my shock leader, i have looked at the bimini twist which was recommended, however I am having trouble actually tieing this know. I was wondering if anyone uses a small swivel to attch the main to the shock leader or if anyone can recommend a good knot.
Any help/ ideas would be appreciated.
cheers Andy

Wouldn't recommend a swivel (although I know one or two people whose leader knots sound like they're casting a swivel:D - first chuck and you'd probably knock every ring from your rod. I'm sure there's a knot section somewhere on the site, or have a look at this site:

use this one myself all the time with or without a Bimini. The Bimini twist looks very hard to tie, but if someone actually shows it to you it's very easy to grasp - try asking in a tackle shop, someone there may be able to show you.

Cheers, Gary :)

Welcome to NESA Andy. I have moved your post so that it gets more response:D Oh and its a spider hitch for me too:D

bimini twist for me probly the easiest knot to tie once uv learned it, most of the quick leader knots i tie end up snapping when i pull them tight maybe abit to tight but i like to be safe lol :P. so after it snaps a few times i normally do a bimini twist and that never snaps, well leaves a few cuts in me hand when it does snap.

the albright knot is a good knot aswell been using this myself the last few weeks but with the winter coming in im back to the bimini twist.

I couldn't get the hang of the leader knots so I just use two uni knots back to back. It works for me as it is strong and easy to do since I use the same knot to tie hooks , rigs etc One knot suits all :red:

Bimini is an excellent knot but is time consuming and a nightmare in the freezing cold, wind and wet. An Albright knot is the 1 I use, simple to tie and very strong ;)

For 80lb leader / 15lb mainline I've been using the overhand / uni-knot for nearly 25 years, simple to tie, does the job and has never let me down yet.

Clean beach fishing I use tapered leaders now, double uni-knot quick, strong and works perfectly.

thanks for the help and advice guys, i have ended up using the albright knot. I have spent the last few hours on various websites and you tube trying to master the bimini. i have struggled, i have found :cool:the albright ok to do. i am a big lad and have tried snapping the albright knot, seems good have not snapped one yet.
Thanks again

a few of the lads i fish with have started using tapered leaders off the beaches and piers, i got myself a few, they seem to be pritty good.

i have never mastered the art of the bimini yet, not sure of the name of the knot i use, make a simple knot in the shock leader, place you main line throuh it, tighten the knot, do 7 or so wraps of mainline up the shockleader away from the knot, then 7 or so wraps back over the wraps you have just done, plenty of lube and pull tight, then trim the tags, your left with a neat little knot.

i have seen lads do this with the mainline doubled, but it makes a bigger knot.

hard to explain without drawings :( lol
