shock leader

Any suggestions for shock leader material?
Recently I\'ve tried Gantel 60lb, Climax 60lb and Sufix Surf 60lb.
The Gantel\'s cr*p, the Climax is a bit better but even the best of the bunch, the Sufix, isn\'t brilliant.
It\'s for clean beach use so abrasion resistance isn\'t too important, but it must be soft and easy to knot.
I used one years ago that came as a freeby with a magazine, and it was brilliant, but I can\'t remember the make. Orange and very supple (not Greased Weasel).

I use extra long Shock leaders and go through a hell of a lot lol. I use the Ron Thomson Shock leader which is both very good and cheap.

Jim.

Grey Greased Weasel for me.

If you can still find the Ron Thompson it seems to be the same but has been discontinued. Great value for the size of the spool although I don\'t really like orange leaders.

Got to agree Peter. I used to use nothing but Greased Weasel and find the Ron Thompson just as good. Didn\'t know they had discontinued it though, will have to do some looking.

Jim.

Apparently it was someones mistake to make them that big. Should have been 50m spools and not 500m so no more made. I struggled to get a spool of 60lb. Saw a while ago in mail order, think it was Glasgow Angling, that they had 40lb left.

Yup...same here m8ey.....got to go \"Greased\"....lol

i have been using the new greys shocker it is not the stiffest up to now is is good ,or try the tappered leaders bullit is the best i have used

I thought about the Greys. Looks good stuff.
I\'m a bit off the tapered leaders. They seem a bit short for a 13\' 6\" rod fished reel down. I\'ve just ordered a 15\' Century CM SRE, which would be even worse.
I also had horrendous problems with the Daiwa tapered leaders a couple of years ago.
Fishing a badly weeded beach the leader knot snapped as I was bringing in. The leader was mostly on the beach so I cleared the weed off the line and tried to retie it. The knot snapped everytime I tightened it up, with hardly any pressure at all. The problem was with the leader not the main line, \'cos if I took a new leader off the spool it was fine - until I reeled in a load of weed again, cut the knot out and tried to retie it. It broke every time. Might have been a bad batch, but it was a new spool of leaders. I binned the lot and never used it again.
