Had a session last night with Mike "Thunderpants", we started off on the pier around 8pm at the south east corner. The swells were massive and that was evident before we even set foot on the pier as the waves were crashing over the North pier, the South was open though so off to end we went.

After setting up with bait rods we tried some spinning but it was clearly in vein as the sea was away, strange considering it wasn't too bad weather wise but with the big tides probably didn't help. 3 other lads were fishing along from us closer to the blocks and like me and Mike they were also finding the swell dragging them into snags.

Around 22:00pm ish we moved onto the end and fished until 00:30 ish and still not a fish between us, the odd bite here and there but nowt to excite us. We decided a change of venue was in order and with the big tides decided the walkway was out so set off further down the Tyne.

It was a move that paid off and it was bites from the off, first in was a flounder for me, I lost a good fish "AGAIN" on the lift, what we think was a decent sized codling (Mike said it had a fat belly). Glad I had a witness or people would think I was telling pork pies about losing big fish every other session, :o I'm owed a few biggies now IMHO.

Mike was then into fish with a nice small plaice, then an eel for the species hunt (lucky hunt) :D he said he was after 1 earlier in the night aswell. He finished with a coley and it was now 3am, time for home a beer and bed, after a cracking nights fishing, cheers Mike as always great company and good craic.

Here's some pics as requested by some readers lol, not the best but makes up for my long babble session post. I didn't get a pic of the eel but sure Mike will post that.

The moon lol.

My flounder went for the boobies ha.

Mikes plaice not the greatest pic but 100% a plaice, we didn't think they came this far down river.

Yeah it turned out canny in the end. We should have gone up the Tyne in the first place lol. That was a nice fish you got I reckon about a pound and a half. Here is a pic of my eel and a better pic of my plaice...

Cheers lads it was a great night once the wind died down, on way off I remembered I left the bairns rod rail rest at end of pier, we were at the second chair, I have never before noticed how long a walk to end and off again it really is lol.

loving your photographic talent Pete, my fave was the moon! ;):D

Haha, it was on phone and not a clue how to use it properly yet.

Think we need to add hooks mate, :D we'll get em fo sho. My problem last night was getting nothing with 3/0 on pier and switching to 1 and 1/0 2 hook flapper in tyne, case of hook too small again.
