Hi all.
Fished shields pier last nite with me good mate
phil.c from 4.45pm till 11.45pm. We fished the southeast corner for an hour and a bit flood then the brass ball on the ebb.
From the first cast the fishing was good, great size whiting every chuck, all around or just under the 1lb mark. We kept chuckng out huge bits at distance for those coddies, but only for those baits to be stripped and taken by more big whiting.
From 9pm we had the whole pier to ourselves, and at around 9.30pm the fishing died off a we bit, with me and phil only pulling in the odd whiting and dabs.
This went on till around 11pm. I had my last cast before calling it a day, putting a clump of yellowtails reet oot there for the last hope off a cod, and it came... At about 11.15pm a noticed a was getting some strange bites, rod tip seemed to bit signaling tiny bites but then big pull downs, and just as a picked the rod it alll went mental!

the rod bent over double and a struck into the fish, a played it all the way to the side and it kept itself deep, but my luck finally ran out with the fish swam towards me and got its head down into the rough stuff around 20yds off, Tried giving it loads of line and pulling from different angles, but eventually had to call it a day and pull, and lost the fish...
I actually feel good though as it just goes to show, you win some, you lose some

. But then disaster happend. As me and phil left the pier, we went to the club hut to sort our gear and have a warm cuppa. As i stepped over the railings with the chains on outside the club hut, somehow (it was all a blur) i managed to catch the tip off me boot on the chain, and I went down hard to the ground. The casualties... My Greys MK3 Apollo is ****ed, all but the tip ring and butt ring are shattered and flattend, and my 7HT Mag got a good scratching

Im devestated now as thats the only rod I've got until a save up for my Century Eliminator, so that me not fishing for sometime now, unhappy new year too me
