Shady report 23/05/15

Bert, Jim, Gary and myself this morning, prompted by Stephen's Macer report yesterday the planned meet up was 4.0am. That went out the window for Mr Excitable, the skipper was down the quay for 2.30am :D

I arrived at 3.45am and Jim & Gary weren't far behind, the skipper's insomnia meant we were out the piers not long after.

First stop was the inshore wrecks, it was a case of crab versus pirks, the crab probably shaded it but both methods produced the goods, all fish around 3lb but great fighters in the shallow water.

By about 6.30am we had a box full of cod:

After a quick Brekkie (Thanks lads :)) Bert had a hunch (We love it when he has a hunch) and it was time to hit his favourite 3 mile spot. The place was ALIVE with cod, coley and a few mackerel.

After a while the feeding fish switch must have been pressed so it was time to move, the next wreck was, yes you guessed it ALIVE. This time a better stamp of fish mostly about 5lb but there was a few better ones amongst them.

I didn't take many photos, think Jim may have a few to add, but here's a view of the catch at about 8.0am (Thanks for the extra box Stephen)

By about 10.30am thoughts turned to the mountain of filleting and the thought of missing out on our post trip pint so we headed in.

We all mucked in with the filleting, think I'm finally getting there, and all the jackets were off within an hour.

A quick head count of the left overs totted up to 190 fish suppers (95 cod) :D

Thanks for a great trip Bert and to Gary, Jim and the other boat crews for the company.

I expect I'll have to finish work early next Friday :D:D
