Seaham Boat Club Winter Comp 4th November

The 2nd Winter comp got off to a cracking start on Sunday 4th November fishing 0900 - 1400 hours. Next to no wind and a dropping lazy swell.
Heaviest bag was won by Gus McGee and Keith Adamson fishing from TWISTER. HSF was a cod of 4.8Kg by Keith and the bag weight was 50.2Kg, a new club record, made up of Codling and Pouting. Most fish came off the wrecks with some strap ling off the rough ground. Lures and daylights are still fishing well plus ragworm and squid. CompSec found some good whiting to 2lb and a plaice nudging the 2lb mark all caught on rag tipped daylights with codling coming to stinky razorfish tipped daylights - all fish caught on the drift on the 100 foot contour. (saves fuel). Seems like the seasons are upside down as the weather early afternoon was like a summers day! with mackerel to boot. A number of cod were around the 3.5 - 4 Kg mark; 6lb - 9lb in old money.
A cracking day had by all.
Don't put the boats to bed for the winter yet there is good sport to be had.

Braine did,nt realise Seaham had a boat fishing club. Sunds like you had a cracking day.
Last time i was at Seaham i went out on an old crabbing boat belonging to Tom. There was only two boats in the harbour and it looked really ran down. I,ve heard rumours they are going to build a marina. Hope they do cos if its anything like Hartlepool the place will take off.

Cheers Mick.

PS I,m always willing to pay my way if there is spaces on any boats.

Yes Mick, we do have a boat club for Trailered boats. Nearly 40 boat owning members and some 35+ ordinary members. Work starts on improving the North Dock as a marina early next year with the dredging of the dock plus new lock gates. This will give a permanently "wet dock" with a built in sill. Room for around 90 boats on pontoon berths plus improvements to the existing launching ramp. Phase 1 and 1A is already completed with parking areas and lighting, new railings, access road and services laid ready for Phase 2 and 3. Public access is allowed and the piers are open to SAC members including disabled parking at the North Pier. (Spiles). Looking good for us.

Interested parties for berths should contact Norman Conn. He is the North Dock Development Officer. There is a website with up to date info called Seaham North Dock I think. Naturally we would expect the berths to be cheaper than RQ / Sunderland /Hartlepool to attract the boats in the first place. I know they have already got the £2M for the next stage.

Tom who had his small coble/crabbing boat at seaham now has a boat kept in Hartlepool. Toms old boat was set alight.
Me and a mate went out on toms old boat a year or so ago and had some good fishing.

The boat in question wouldn't be the MFV LADY LYDIA would it? I spent much of my youth at sea with him and harry brace.
