Don't know if already posted but heard the pier is closed until end January for essential repairs.

Can anyone confirm?

useless ****s ,its about time they constructed a place where you can fish 24 7 near there  they wonder why folks are sneaking all over fishing illegaly and i cant say i blame them either

Useless? How on earth are they useless? Are you saying they should leave it open even though it is damaged so that people have a chance of falling in and a good possibility of drowning? Then the lifeboat being called out so that those lads can risk their necks too just because someone thinks they are useless for closing it?

It's not their fault that it is damaged it is down to the sea, that is what the sea does, it always will. Calling the people that close it useless because it is damaged is really not very clever at all. When something is unsafe it must be closed until it is made safe again that is the law, and not a useless law at all either.

Jim.

Totally agree.

I mean, its only been standing over 100 years and had to deal with every massive sea every winter.

Surely the leisure department could negotiate with the weather to take it easy on the Sunderland area.

As a 24/7 fishing venue,I suggest they buy a defunct oil rig and dump it 400 yards off seaburn beach, and make it accessible by tunnel, with an elite membership of who posts the most stupid comment (s) on an internet message board.

dee ya think i shud be on that oil rig davey LOL be awsome all them cod out there out of casting distance from pier folk :)

The pier is classed as a public footpath,so anyone tripping and being injured due to any damage would be able to put a claim in against the council.
Thats why they always close it till any repairs are done.
Have a look at all the patches in the concrete surface next time your on..

They have a place near there you can fish 24/7. Its called a BEACH. You can see it just at the start of the pier. It isnt to hard to miss unless you are walking around with your eyes closed.

by the way i still think there useless ,yous can slag me all you want im not just on about just the mess on the pier [but to be honest theres some sloppy gets on there what will get it closed for good] why dont they build somewhere we can fish 24 7 why is it taking till the end o january to mend just hurry up man haha lol chill out man yer miserable gets hahsa:D:Dinstead o building that monstrosoty of a fountain on the seafront what was a right waste of dough they shud a spent it on the pier thats what im saying

are you for real ? jim was making a valid point re the health and safety issue! the pier is not just there for anglers, its for anyone who wants to go there for what ever purpose.if you want to fish around that area there are plenty of other safer marks at the moment so why not fish there ? not being a killjoy but commen sense sometimes is best

you want to think yourself lucky you have a pier to fish off (WHEN ITS SAFE TO DO SO )the pier was not built to satisfy anglers needs it was built for safety of ships entering the harbour so you should not shout your mouth when the powers to be are repairing it for the safety of the public that use the pier and not just the anglers

in the meantime why not try shileds pier its only a short bus ride away

Well said Waco I'm pleased somebodys said this.:)

move to the centre of the universe mate (NEWCASTLE), plenty of deep water marks there which help plums like us who struggle to cast over 40 50 yds, also plenty of rough ground marks where it isnt so deep but you only need to be casting 40 yds or so, just a suggestion plus it is the centre of the universe, and alot better than red and white land IMHO;), lol
