went down roker pier for first light(not a sole on the pier when i got there), arrived while it was still dark, cast out a spinner and bang straight into a macky in the black dark. after that it was a fish a chuck (didn't matter if you cast 10 yds or 100 yds, fished deep or shallow they were there), left the pier just before 7am with 51 macky. went down again this afternoon for last three hours of the flood, only stayed about an hour as not a lot was coming in, got 2 coalies and 2 macky.

what do you do with 51 mackerel

go through approx 500 a year for bait use them for whiting, flounders, conger, thornies, spurs, pike etc (eat a few as well). non get wasted (just used the last few i froze down last year) the 51 i got this morning were filleted, individually wrapped and in the freezer before 10am. saves a small fortune plus i know they were frozen down jumping fresh.

spot on mick thats the way to do it.

Was the same Sunday morning. Wasn't quite pitch dark but head torch required to make sure you didn't stand in the Saturday evening shift turd or trip on a lambribi bottle but straight away first chuck about 4.10am (using a dark lure as well) straight in. Mind as soon as it got light they went totally off so no more day lights........night lights are the way

Good answer Micky :D;)

that`s the difference between the angler and the summer knacker.

some mackeral get filletted, and frozen, for good bait over the winter and well into next year,

the others just get, drop kicked back in, left on the pier until they have taken there last gasp, or stuffed into carrier bags and taken away, until the bags get to heavy and just dumped..........!
well done mick.

well done mick.

the neck end of roker was a disgrace this morning a few fish left rotting (a few coalies and macky) fish guts and macky heads just left (if you fillet fish on the pier why not throw the remains back in the water) and why do people insist on pi**ing up against wall, why not do it over the side or if they're shy walk along to the steps and do it down there at least the tide washes them twice a day. no call for it !
